Yup I'm going to the ALMS race at Mid-Ohio this year. I got my dad 2 super tickets (weekend pass, grandstand seating (not gonna be used), and paddock passes) for his birthday. Gonna see Aston kick Corvettes hiney again
Who wants up close and personal shots of the DBR9?

I'll be there, but sadly, as far as I know, the Astons will be back in Europe. Unless thing have changed, they'll be running the LMES (Europe's version of ALMS) and then come back to the States in the fall for Petit LeMans and Laguna Seca. Should be a good time anyway, and what the ALMS lacks in competition, SWC will more than make up for.
Speaking of ALMS, the race this weekend at Road Atlanta will be live on CBS this Sunday at 1:00, and the SWC races will be same day on SPEED.

from what I've read the field will be full like Sebring since Mid-Ohio is right before LeMans and it's a good practice for them.
I emails Aston Martin Racing and I'll tell ya what they say.

Hmmm . . . I also thought AM would NOT be at Mid-Ohio. Either way should be a great weekend. I really more interested in seeing the Speed GT race over the ALMS race . . . . glad they are both on Sunday.

I've been thinking about going on Saturday as well, mainly for the SWC Touring cars. They've been putting on some exciting races this year. We'll see how it goes. At this point, I don't even know where I'll be living in a month.

I hope you can prove me wrong. Looking at the LMES schedule, they'll be at Spa this weekend, and don't have another race until Monza in July. It would definitely be possible.

I think what the announcers were saying is that all the ALMS teams will be there to get ready for LeMans. The Aston team is an LMES team that plans to run a few ALMS events. I still hope I'm wrong, but I don't expect to see them back in the States until Petit LeMans and Laguna Seca this fall. It'll still be cool, though. I'm kinda looking forward to wandering down to Thunder Valley to get the full effect of the new Mazda prototype. I've never heard a 3 rotor Wankel in person before.

I've been reading a little about the Mazda, but haven't seen any pictures. Any idea how she looks?

I was a little disapointed that CBS chose not to show it in their coverage, but here are a couple pics from motorsport.com

However they said in the future Mid-Ohio is a good possability.

I still think this could be a better race than last year, even though the Aston Martins will be missed. LMP1 might be an actual race, rather than one really fast car lapping all the others. There are 2 Audi R8s this year, and they will race each other, rather than falling back on team orders. The 2 Dyson Lolas could also challenge for the win, with a little luck and reliablility. LMP2 has a little fresh blood with the Mazda. They finished 2nd in class in their debut at RA, although it was (ahem) 6 laps down from the class leader. Even GT2 is getting interesting, with the Panoz winning a pretty close race with one of the Alex Job Porsches. In GT1, yes, the C6Rs will win, but there could be a good fight for third between the Saleen and the Maseratis.

Crap! the SWC GT race is on Saturday instead of Sunday, which is likely the day that I'm moving into a new apartment. I may have to wait another month to see the GT cars at Cleveland. If anyone's interested, the event schedule is posted in PDF form at midohio.com[url]midohio.com[url]

Yup, I'm getting the new place on the 20th, which makes getting to the track on Saturday fairly unlikely, unless I just leave everything piled in the garage for the weekend. I'm still pretty hopefull to make it on Sunday, though.

Hmmmm . . . I'm not sure sure which day to go now. I think it will be Saturday. I've seen the 'big boys' race before, but never seen the Touring or GT cars. And I want to see that Volvo . . .
