NASCAR: Who Are You A Fan Of?
I've watched NASCAR for years, just wondering who is a hardcore fan and who is fair weather.
Since I have been following, this is the best I can remember...
David Pearson
Bill Elliott
Davey Allison
Dale Jarrett
Carl Edwards
I consider myself a fan to the end. I guess you can see the trend of the people I follow, Ford guys. But that doesn't exclude them. I stuck with Jarrett even when he went to a Toyota out of loyalty alone.
How about you guys?

I can remember as little kid watching with my dad. Way back in the 70s it's some of my earliest memories. Now he won't watch it anymore and doesn't even remember us watching it together. But I do.
I remember rooting for Cale Yarborough, I was a huge Bill Elliott fan, I rooted for Alan Kulwicki in the Hooters car, and was also a huge fan of Davey Allison in the black Havoline Texaco car. Loved those Thunderbird bodies.
I stopped watching for a while with the onset of #24 and such, and started watching again a few years back. Heck about 10 years ago. I was a Jarrett fan till he switched and for the past few years Ive been a member of Jr. nation. I can't explain why. Probably mostly out of sympathy after his father dies on the track while he was racing, but I root for him to win. Being a fan is funny that way.

Bill Elliott
Jeff Gordon
Dale Earnhardt
Alan Kulwicki
Mark Martin
Rusty Wallace
Davey Allison
Richard Petty
Many others, but I think brevity is a good thing.
Today... not really following. First, Restrictor Plates, then GWC and finally The Chase have made me a non-follower these days. Hate these, and hate the current NASCAR.

My all time favorite without question is Bill Elliott. Who could forget the Coors/Melling 9 Thunderbird in the 80's. Bill did pretty good in Evernhams 9 Dodge as well. Indy 2002 was a big one. I always put the man ahead of the car make but was always a died in the wool Ford man at heart. I would pull for Elliott if he was driving a Yugo.
Ford did him kinda dirty at the end after all he did for them.
Others I really pulled for were:
Dale Jarrett
Davey Allison
Mark Martin
Bobby Allison
David Pearson
Tony Stewart because he is politically incorrect.
Rusty Wallace
Im sure Im missing a bunch but as somebody said somewhere nascar pretty much died out in 92 or so.
The France mafia could fix it if they just would. Take the restrictor plates off, lay the spoilers back, go to bias ply tires, and bring back the boxy cars of the 80's and let them rip. The racing of today is an engineers race and the drivers can only add so much. Its about who has the most money. Multicar teams should be limited to 2 max. 4 people control the sport. Hendricks, Roush, Gibbs, Penske and thats it. There is no such thing as a guy like say Harry Gant or Kulwiki every happening again. Its a shame.

I'm into NHRA Top Fuel and Formula One. Getting ready to watch Monza on DVR, and later NHRA Pro Modified from last week's Indy is on.
