Krohn Returns to Ford Power for 2009

http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/news/index.cfm?cid=19812

"The decision to run Ford was made a couple of weeks ago, to go with a different powerplant for the '09 season, switching from Pontiac to Ford," Jonsson said. "I think we saw last year that the Ford powerplant was strong. We definitely struggled last year, not just with the car, but with the powerplant. We've done everything we can on our part to get the best engine at the back of our ProtoAuto Lola, and now it's up to us to get the car fine-tuned to where we can win some races next year and run for the championship."

Nice, but I'm still waiting for a Ford presence in ALMS.

You and me both (among others). Seems an Ecoboost 4-cylinder would be a nice fit for a LMP2. Especially with the "green" movement in ALMS and FMC's approach to fuel economy and performance with Eco.

I'm starting to think that there is not enough differentiation between LMP1 & 2.
Time to go back to the old under & over 2L clasifications with LMP-2 obviously being under 2L.

From: That town you drive through to get to Myrtle Beach
the only real difference is a little bit of speed, and seems to be alot of funding

Isn't the Ecoboost 4cyl based on the Mazda MZR? So there's kinda unofficially an Ecoboost-powered Lola Coupe in LMP2. Hopefully two of then run by Dyson next year.

I am not sure, Dan. I haven't read enough about the 4cyl Eco-Turbos to know. Perhaps others know.

With regard to FMC in ALMS, in the January 2009 5.0 Magazine, Ford's new Racing Director, Brian Wolfe had this to say . . .

BW-Then there are some professional races that we don't dabble in today, but on the other hand, maybe the folks that are watching that type of racing won't consider a Ford today. So if we can go in there and kick everybody's ***, that would be a cool thing.
5.0-Could you be more specific on which santions you're . . ?
BW-Well, i think some of the SCCA World Speed Challenge, maybe looking at what we can do in ALMS early next decade when they start changing things. But, you know we are not making any commitments. What i am doing so far in my week and a half here is looking at the areas we aren't playing in and why, and whether there's an opportunity if we do go play there.
