The track is 2 hours from where I live. I plan on going to every possible event and would love a track day.
Austin is so full of nuts and libs I don't see why the heck they wanted to put it there. If it were Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio they would gladly welcome it, but Austin is just nuts. It's the San Francisco of Texas.

I don't really care what part of Texas it goes to - as long as we get it!

I would prefer the track to be in the DFW area and I am sick of the Austin folks looking down on Dallas and talking about how they are so "international" and yet now it looks like they are going to blow off a huge international event...arghhh.

If this is the reason the petitions are going around:
http://formula-one.speedtv.com/artic...er-25m-payment
Then, if what is said is true, I don't support Austin giving money to F1. If F1 is all that, then they can come up with the paltry (to them) $25M.
Of course, Home Depot can come up with $6M for their data center too, and all those like that.
I think the difference is, well, it's more, and secondly, Home Depot probably meant more permanent, year round jobs than the F1 track will give.
Anyone want to prove the F1 track deserves the 25M more than teachers and such, you just go right ahead and tell me, or better yet, link it up to actual facts and figures and news and such.
---
On the other hand, F1 in Texas would be pretty sweet... I'm so torn... Ugh.
I must abstain due to waffling. Sorry. And the fact that I probably couldn't afford 1/8th of a ticket, likely, so I'm very 'meh' about it overall.
/mmnnn... waffles...
//More mmmn... pancakes at Ihop with Boysenberry syrup.
---
edit: Well, actually, just the Sunday at the 'T10' grandstand in Germany is about $288 for a seat, the lowest seat price I can find... if I read it right, and the conversion is correct (as of today). Of course, it's a sucky seat compared to T1, but not as bad as GenAd, I'm guessing.
Which means, I could *maybe* go... but... I dunno...

Now the owners, that's a different story, slightly.

The Bluegrass track in KY had the track surface nearly finished, and were starting on the "other stuff" (tire walls, curbing, etc.) when they ran out of money.
I wanted to drive that course SOOOO bad!

If you're planning on going to Austin for F1......
Better book your room soon! We booked rooms at a nearby Hampton Inn using Hilton HHonors Points......and there's wasn't a lot to pick from.
It's costing something like 21,000 points a night. High-end Hilton Hotels go for something like 40,000 a nite. Of course, we were told we could always just pay for the rooms..........are you ready for this ....for over $700 a night !!!!
It's just like Indy a few years ago. A room at the downtown Ramada Inn was $125 the Thursday nite before the race. Fri, Sat, and Sun nights were $330 a night!
