Edwards not planning on running Nationwide in 2012

Edwards not planning on running Nationwide in 2012: After competing the past seven years for Roush Fenway Racing in the Nationwide Series, all while running a full Cup Series schedule, Carl Edwards has decided not to run any Nationwide races in 2012. "The way we're approaching this season is, I'm not committing to any races right now," Edwards said. "And as the season goes, if I decide I'm just a nervous ball of energy on Saturdays and I can't function without going and racing -- because that might be the case -- then we'll work to try to go [Nationwide] racing. We could get 10 races in [to the season] and I could say 'Hey, I'm better off racing on Saturdays.' Then, it would be on me to go look for some way to put something together so that we could go race."(NASCAR.com)(1-16-2012)

That is a shocker. The way Carl was winning, he most likely would have broken the win record of Kyle Busch before the end of the year.

This is interesting. I think I just made up my mind about buying full season tickets for the chicagoland races.

Edit: so who's going to be in the 60?

14 wins to tie 15 for the record might have been a little much in one year . . . .

Jack Roush said that he will shut down one of his three Nationwide teams due to sponsors. So either #6, #16 or #60 will be shut down.
Roush will have two drivers for sure in 2012, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne, but it's unknown which cars they will drive.

So sponsors are still hard to find ? Makes me wonder about the future of the Nationwide series.

Carl will miss the track knowledge he gets by racing on the track before the Sprint cup race.

Carl's been in NASCAR for 7 years now, he knows all tracks pretty well.

I think the fact that he can't run for a championship in the Nationwide is the main reason why he doesn't want to race.
Too bad, since Roush had a great year in Nationwide in 2011.

Still wish NASCAR were more aggressive in keeping the Cup teams out of the Nationwide races.
