I hope it is extremely puncture-resistant! :panic:

More than likely that tank is even more durable than the driver's tub.

StangMahn 6/19/12 04:12 PM

which as we've seen over the past couple races, those tubs are pretty damned strong

Is there some unwritten rule somewhere stating that vehicles assigned to "Garage 56" have to look, um... different? I've heard some rather unkind, comparisons of the Delta Wing car to a certain feature of the male anatomy.
Surprised Honda isn't getting in on the hybrid/hydrogen fuel cell action, given their focus on fuel efficiency compared to most other auto manufacturers' model ranges and their FCX Clarity vehicle.

StangMahn 6/20/12 12:06 AM

you mean that the delta wing looks like a phallus?

There's a ton of cars that everyone thinks looks spectacular that have similar design cues, Jag E-type, Viper, Mercedes SLR, etc

Considering the amount of new technology in the design, it's probably reasonable that they set a slower lap time target for the Deltawing than the P1/P2 cars. But it would have been very interesting to put this car on a more even footing with P2 to see what would happen.

Gasoline fuel capacity is limited to 75L (73L with ERS). Fuel stops wouldn't be quite half as often but would highlight the efficiency advantage very well.

Really miss seeing Robertson Racing out there too.

A little update (and validation) on the Delta Wing.

From Marshall Pruett on speedtv.com . .

(MP: The DeltaWing was given a set of performance targets to meet, and not exceed, by the ACO at Le Mans … and managed to go three seconds under that target, despite having an air restrictor the size of a Slurpee straw … The ACO then gently reminded them to dial it back a bit. I’ll say this: If you’re looking at the DeltaWing’s outright performance possibilities, it would be a much different animal if was built to IndyCar specs — a two- to three-hour sprint race — compared to needing to have everything last 24 hours. Minus the air restrictor and with the boundaries pushed a bit further, its power/weight ratio alone makes it a beast.)

Wow. I hope this isn't the end of the line for this chassis.
