2006 Hungarian Grand Prix

Anybody else watching/watched the F1 race this morning? I think it may be the best race of the season. I know there are a few F1 faithful on TMS who should be watching . . My, my how things can change. It's been a LONG time since I've pulled for Michael, but I'm hoping he can win the Championship this season.

It's been fun to watch Robert and he is having a GREAT run. He seemed pretty 'loose' in some interviews yesterday and this morning.

The race stewards apparently acknowledged that it wasn't done intentionally, as it came from scrubbed intermediate tires (which were in use for 51 laps), but disqualified him none the less. The team didn't protest the decision.

It was kind of strange that they were that close to the weight limit. Or maybe Kubica just didn't drive on the dirty line to pick up rubber on his way back to parc ferme, as the drivers usually do.

I thought Michael did a bad move with cutting off the chicane, near the end of the race. Heck, the the annoucers were saying that he couldn't do that legally to keep a position (De La Rosa had the pass), and when they thought he would yield 2nd to De la Rosa, he cut him off again. Sometimes I think Michael thinks he does nothing wrong. While I am a fan of how good of a driver he is, the incident a few years ago when he overtook Barrichello to win a race, and Rubens finished 2nd, will always stick in my crawl. I know It was Jean Todt's doing, but Michael should have just stood his grounds and let Rubens win the race.
On a lighter note,I just want to know one thing? What happened to Alonso? I was watching it when he has a some 30 second lead, I jumped in the shower (had to get ready for a buddy's wedding), and when I came back (15 minutes or so) he was gone. What the heck did he do?

Quoted from F1-live.com:

Fernando started fifteenth yet occupied third position by lap five as he scythed through the field on Michelin's excellent ‘intermediate' wet tyres. He took the lead on lap 17 as Kimi Raikkonen pitted, and enjoyed a forty second lead when the Safety Car was called into action on lap 27.

Running with a heavy fuel load in the second stint of the race, he had a slender lead over Jenson Button when he pitted on lap 51 for dry tyres. However, as he exited the pits, a failure at the rear end of the car pitched him into a slide at turn 1, and finally out of the race at turn 2.

At first, they were saying it was a wheel nut, but the story has since changed to a halfshaft failure. Still, by far the best F1 race of the year.
