stock rear shelby wheels

stock rear shelby wheels

the stock 285/35/20 rear good year tires are done on my 13 Shelby I want to replace them with 315/35/20 tires and I want to keep the stock track pack 9.5 wide wheels so they will have to be widened on the inside to about 1.5 inches has any one done this with out clearance issues and if so how much did they widen there wheels thanks

To fit a 315 on that rim you'll have to get it to about an 11.5. My 10.5's hold a 295/30R20 just fine tho

thanks onelildude, I measured the clearance between the mounted stock 285 on the stock 9,5 stock wheel and it looks like around 2 inches of clearance between the inside of the tire and the sway bar so I am thinking 11 inches total I think 11.5 inches would spread the tire to far in but I have no idea what I am doing that's why I ask for help thanks

thanks nick for the advice, yea I am having the rear wheels widen to 11.5 I have the new tires 315/35/20 and they measure 11.5 bead to bead should have the wheels back soon

Several guys have gone with the Ferrari spec 295/35/20 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the stock 20x9.5 rear rims and been very pleased.

i had eric Vaughn widen my stock wheels to 11.5 he is in Monrovia ca and since I live less than 30 miles from his shop I took my wheels to him and he showed me the whole process he cuts the stock wheel on his lathe then cuts an inner blank that he gets from a supplier he machines an outer lip and an inter lip on the mating surfaces so they interlock then he welds it on a rotory tig welder the end result is with in 5 thousands round so you end up with just one weld per wheel the cost was 700 total plus he has been doin wheels for 30 years I am very pleased with the end result

Thank you!

No issues with the 11.5" wheels? How was traction changed? When I switched from the stock good years to Michelin pilot sports I felt like I got 30% more traction, especially if it was below 70f.

lot of issues to mount the 11.5 wheels I had to remove the stock bump stop bracket with mister saws all and installed a relocation bump stop kit I removed the wheel well insolation liner to be safe then I removed the dust cover on the rear shocks because the stock wheels have a crazy off set I had to use 5/8 inch wheel spacers but 1/2 may be ok I just want to play it safe until I conclude testing I did jack one side of the rear axle up until the other wheel came off the ground and it looks like I have around 5/16 tire clearance plus i installed an adjustable pan hard arm cause the axle was not centered from the factory it was off by around 3/32 of an inch had to go to longer wheel nut studs and deeper lug nuts as far as straight line traction so much better but i still need to go out and drive the car hard i just haven't had the time yet the invo tires i went with are 1 inch taller than the stock good years and i know its not the right tire for a track cause of the push issues but my car will see a track with turns lol

Wow I'm glad I asked. If you had made them 11" instead of 11.5" would that have saved some modification? Thanks for the info, this is an upgrade that I have planned for a long time and don't want to have to modify the car to much unless necessary.

I don't know if a 11 wheel width would have less issues than the 11.5 because in my case it was the 315 /35/20 tire side wall that was rubbing on the inner wheel well, if you went to a 11 inch width it could make the tire side wall bulge more, all the modifications I did were simple to accept the wider wheels and tires a couple of hours is all it takes if u went with a 30 profile instead of 35 u would even have less issues caused when the axle tilts inword on compression on one side plus the 30 profile is closer to the stock tire diameter in my case

The MPSS run a little wider than other brands. Stay AWAY from the Ferrari spec tires. They are even wider. One of our members ordered these by mistake and has them in his garage because they rubbed. Not very much but enough that he ordered the correct size tires.

If your wheels are not the correct offset and you are lowered without using an adjustable pan hard bar to centre the differential. You could rub. But I know 3 guys running the Ferrari spec tires with zero issues!
