so what is market value new right now?
Whatever the market will bear
I ordered my 2012 GT500 on x-plan. A couple of hundred over invoice, or about a $4,000 savings off MSRP. Go to the small dealerships who don't have much foot traffic, but their big enough to get an allotment of one or two cars a year. Tell them you'll put three thousand down to order on x-plan. I ordered my car in April right when gas prices were going up, so the dealer was a little nervous about cars that were not as fuel efficient. He told me the GT500 was just another unit to him, and agreed to x-plan within 60 seconds of our initial phone call. Next day I put $1000 down on the x-plan order. He did boast that in 2007 he got $17,000 over sticker on a GT500. I found the big dealers get aggressive selling the GT500 right when the new models are being released.
Another strategy. Contact the dealerships in the worst regions of the economy. I talked to one in Michigan who also agreed to x-plan over the phone but would not do a drop ship. These dealers are more likely to deal on the specialty units, but you may have to have the car shipped to you. Try the local small dealers first.
My opinion only. A halo car is a great selling tool to keep on the showroom floor. I believe many dealerships would like to keep a Shelby or Boss on the showroom floor for the attention they get, and maybe they aren't too anxious to get rid of it. So they put ADM's on it. If somebody wants to pay it, then great. But chances are, in this economy the car will sit for some time, doing it's job, showing the shoppers that Ford can build an exciting car.

All of which I intend to use next year.
I was told by my local dealer that he would honor my Z-Plan on a GT500...have a 5.0 on order thats "the car" I want so still debating...and struggling to justify the added $$$$ for a toy that will only see 3-4k miles a year..
If you can afford it do it!!!! The 5.0 GT is a very nice car.....but the GT500 is in a different league altogether!! You won't regret it!! I can't wipe the grin off my face everytime I drive mine!!

This and if you like attention you'll doublely enjoy it. Never a shortage of people gawking at your car and asking questions. On the plus side as well, people dont tend to mess with you as much when it comes to kunckleheads wanting to street race.
If not you can go a little more stealth and buy a stripe delete car...just not red or grabber blue. Lol
10K A$$hole Dealer Markup is absurd! GT500's haven't sold with an ADM period since 2008 unless the consumer is a complete idiot. Dealer price gouging has been non existent for 4 years running now and invoice is more than fair on these vehicles. There are well over 30,000 GT500's on the roads today so they are not exactly rare. Since the summer of 2008 invoice has been very doable on these cars.
I'll chime in. Had a 5.0 on order (at $3k under MSRP), but the material hold delay was bugging me. The dealer had a Kona '12 with electronics, recaros, and svtpp. I changed my mind and wanted that one. They would only take $500 over MSRP- it's still sitting there. I found another dealer in the area that found me the same car minus recaros and sold it to me for $2k under MSRP. The bad news was the car had 300 miles on it. The car that was over MSRP had no miles, and had never sat outside or gone on a test drive. But it was $4,500 more dollars. In the end I took the high milage car and the savings. I can put 300 miles on in a couple of weeks.
I took that $2k I saved and got the ford extended warranty (7 years/100,000 miles).

I ordered one six weeks ago at x-plan. The down side is I am dealing with a small dealer which is waiting for the area rep to provide an allocation and a subsequent build date.
