Shelby GT 500 with Automatic Transmission

Has anybody done it, or can it be done? I ask as our next car must be an automatic (my wife's health simply won't allow her to drive a manual any longer).

4r70w w/ Baumann controller. Been done as well as Th400. TH-400 is harder to make the VSS work though.

So it's doable, but at what cost (couldn't figure it out from the site's information)?

Usually you can get a decent built 4r70w for 4k and a TH-400 for 5k. You'll have more trouble wiring the TH and will no doubt spend more doing it. The guys on Modularfords.com have done both swaps in Terminators and GT 500's. I frequent there and they have a wealth of information on doing the swap. You could possibly wait to use the 6r80 that the '11 GT's come with as the bolt pattern for the bellhousing would be the same as any Modular motor. That and you'll have a 6 speed auto that is proven in heavy vehicles(Explorer).

$4K for the tranny? Are you talking about the complete conversion, converter, bauman controller, driveshaft and crossmember?

The TH400 has no overdrive or lock-up converter so that would suck for anything other than drag racing.

The 6R80 wouldn't be a viable alternative, no way to control it, no stand-alone computer for it yet.

I think buying a normal auto mustang gt and putting a whipple kit on it would be a better idea.
