LOCKED OUT!!

Has anyone had this happen?

Picking up hot food ordered to go. Nicer couple gasping over my '13 GT500 as I returned with food wanted to hear & see engine (how could I deny). Turned on Shelby & lifted hood to gasps & congrats on Shelby.

Driver door got pushed & it closed!

I HEARD A LOCK SOUND! LOCKED OUT!!!! WITH ENGINE RUNNING!!!!

Angry wife had to get dressed to bring spare key. Major disaster & COLD FOOD!

Did you still have the hood up?

Yes, the hood was up with the motor running! Does that introduce a lock situation not explained anywhere? All other lock situations are normal.

No, I was just thinking you could have shut the motor off with the hood up.

Why the hell does it lock just idling? I know some vehicles auto lock when you start moving but not just sitting at idle. There has to be a way to turn that feature off.

Mustangs auto lock at 12 mph I think. It can be turned off in cluster. Maybe somebody hit the manual lock button accidentally or maybe a bug. Happened in my 2010 also and I had auto lock enabled.

When I pull my car into my garage, I always roll down the windows to let air circulate. I do not leave the keys in, though. I went out to the car one time to put the new insurance card in it, and found the passenger door locked. (Ever notice that BOTH doors unlock when you get out?) I reached in the window on the passenger door, hit the unlock button and opened the door... and the ALARM went off!

I do have just a couple other keys on the ring with the Mustang key, and I did have this happen once- moving stuff around with the keys in my hand, I managed to squeeze the key ring just right that another key pressed the Panic button on the ring, so my car in the garage started honking and the lights flashing!

That's when you wish it had a keypad.

Yuck, no.
There's a reason no other manufacturer hangs onto that feature.....cuz it's UGLY!

At no time should a door lock with the keys IN the car and the car is not moving.
Someone must have manually hit the lock button.

Find someone who has AAA insurance and have them get you a key card. They will need a key that fits the door to have the card made. The key card is about 50% thicker than a credit card and has a fold out key. Fits in your wallet.

That's why the newer keypads are 'hidden' in the B pillar. One of the best feature of Ford vehicles.

If vehicle is running with no one inside, then the window is rolled down to prevent this very thing from happening.

I put a keypad on my car, but its not where you'd expect to see it. I hid it inside my fuel filler door!!! Perfect fit and no one knows its there. Now this is on a 2006. On the new cars, the door is the same, but the space isn't as large and it may not fit. Just a thought though.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I tried again today to have the Shelby repeat the lockout without success, but I will report any re-occurrence.

The AAA key card sounds interesting, but I plan to make a key copy & use a magnetic hide-a-key as I've done since my first car ('55 Chevy), unless someone knows that this SVT key cannot be copied.

PS: The angry wife would wreck the camera, but she's a beauty!

Have you bothered to mess with the auto lock feature in your car settings?

To theACE,

I read & set up the auto lock from the manual last month when I got the new Shelby, but good suggestion to re-read that section. It would be a mistake to even have such an unnecessary locking option IMO. Thanks tho!
