It's finally here! For real this time!
I hope you're right, because mine are 305/35/20's and I'm counting on them staying nice and sticky around road courses. Of course, steering is a major component on road courses, so I went up in size there too with 555's and a 275/35/20 size. I'm a little iffy on the fronts, but I think I'd have to start moving suspension stuff around if I widen them any more, and there just isn't a tire made for the fronts that is as wide or as sticky (tread-design-wise) as the 555R's or the NT05R's (which were considered, but ultimately dismissed for the complete lack of traction the car would exhibit in the case we ever experience that atmospheric condition called "rain").
Road travel has been relatively similar to the stock tires/wheels, even with the extra inch in diameter. I have driven it in both comfort and sport, but just not aggressively enough yet to really feel what the tires are doing. With it being sunny tomorrow (hopefully), I plan on putting a good 50 miles on it under varying conditions, including hard starts/stops and some fast corners, if the tires build up my confidence enough and if I can get them warm enough. I've heard good things about Nittos from a lot of people, and I'm hoping I share their experiences. This is an incredibly difficult car to get to behave under hard acceleration with the stock wheels/tires. I know everyone has said it, but the torque is just otherworldly. Like I told Gary, I've never experienced anything like it. If the Nittos can tame (or rather, semi-tame) the rear end, then I can let the engine do its job and focus on keeping the front end pointed in the right direction. If these 555's up front don't cut it, I honestly don't know what I'd do at that point. I might be asking for more than the tire--or suspension--can give, and may end up staring an entire suspension overhaul in the face. But that's ok. I learn more about this car and cars in general every day, and I am finding myself gravitating to the garage even when I'm sick, like earlier this week when it was Wisconsin-cold in South-central Texas and I was putting the new shoes on with a fever. It gives me an excuse to be under the car/hood or behind the wheel, and that's never a bad thing. Er...let me qualify that statement by adding the caveat, "as long as you're not trying to find out what just broke off and came flying out behind you."
Regular 555's up front right? The R's are pretty good out back. In the 20's, the sidewall should be stiff enough. A little soft on mine out back but not enough to worry. I've pushed mine pretty hard around some turns and they have yet to even really squeal. You should be pleased. Especially when it warms up.
The sidewalls are one of the things I'm focused on with the fronts, specifically because I don't want the front to push and roll over on the side walls too much. I'm sure you're very familiar with the feeling I'm referring to, and it's a sickening one when you suddenly realize you don't have enough grip to keep your grille from being painted "infield green" or worse, "outfield gravel." You're not the first person to tell me that the 555's up front are an excellent tire for just such a purpose, but you're the first one to do so with a car so similar to mine. That puts a smile on my face. I know the Shelby will push some; it's too heavy, and especially too front-heavy not to. It won't ever corner like a Boss. But if I can reduce the push even just a little bit with the front tires, it gives access to all of that torque earlier in the turn exits.

Looks good. Really wanted to see it from the side to check out the profile. I wouldn't worry about the sidewall rolling enough to cause a big problem. You ain't gonna push your car that damm hard.

It feels like much lighter of a car than it is, I thought my SGT handled good and that this one would feel like a pig, but there is no comparison between the two.
That's what I'm talking about, not on the street at least. Even with mine bone stock with stock tires you can't push it anywhere near it's handling limit on the street without going to jail or endangering the lives of yourself and anyone else on the road. If you drive it into a turn on the street hard enough to get it to push, you are an idiot or have a death or jail wish. The grip and balance (under normal conditions) is that good.

It's just not as fun to have to worry about. I nailed it in third once while passing and the tires were breaking loose and traction control was taking over and I'm like **** this. I just want a clear sunny day heck in the 60s would be nice. I just haven't had any chance to really see what it can do. Like right now I'd take Seven for a drive but with all the deer running around on the last weekend of the season I'm not risking this cars front end. Knock on wood.

Besides, I'm pretty sure if I wrecked it, my wife would ask the car, "Worry about my husband later, ARE YOU OK?!?"

That, and Easter would be tough for me to get away from the wife.

I dyno'd my stock 2013 Shelby last month and it was already laying down over 500 lb/ft of rear wheel torque at just 2,000 rpm. Insane! That's torture for tires...and why it's so easy to spin this car in 1st, 2nd and even 3rd. The torque curve on the dyno sheet was almost vertical as soon as we hit the throttle!
