Here come the ADM's on the 2013 GT500

November 16, 2011
To: All Ford Dealers
Subject: 2013 Shelby GT500 Program Announcement
The ultimate Ford Mustang – Shelby GT500 – raises the bar high on performance with the introduction of
the new 2013 model that goes on sale next year delivering 650 horsepower and a top speed of more than
200 mph. The Shelby GT500 is now powered by an aluminum 5.8-liter supercharged V8 producing 650
horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 engine in the world.
METHODS FOR EARNING ALLOCATION
All Ford full-line dealers will have the opportunity to enroll in theShelby GT500 Dealer Certification
Program for the 2013MY. Every dealer enrolled in the program will be eligible for (1) Shelby GT500. The
remaining allocation will be assigned based on2011CY retail sales (Share of Nation Mustang).
PROGRAM ENROLLMENT
Additional information on the program enrollment and certification requirements will be made available in
January. The dealer enrollment process will begin in early February. The 2013 Shelby GT500 is expected to begin production in the 2nd quarter.
-----------------------------------------------------------

This is what Ford did with the Boss. Dealers are going to feel they've got something very special and rare to sell and the ADM"s are going to be huge!
I think we all knew dealers would look to get an ADM but this "program" basically gives them the green light to get as much as they can.

This is no different than just about every special edition Mustang for the past 11 years. And, if you go by history, there will be people who pay it.

I suspect you probably remember the first 2007 GT500s that went for 80000 USD to some of the early buyers.

One thing that looks promising is "the remaining allocation will be assigned based on 2011CY retail sales". That means the dealers that actually sold a bunch of GT500s at fair prices, MSRP or under, are going to get rewarded with even more 2013 GT500s, which Im sure they'll do the same. Those dealers with ONE 2013 GT500 will probably sit on them until the 2015 new generation GT500s roll out.

I'm not going to play that horsesh*t game. Either I can order one at msrp or less or I'm out. That imo is more than fair. I can wait for later in the year or get a swingin' deal on a '12 Challenger SRT8. Hell I waited a whole year since I sold my RS4.

This reminds of going to clubs when I was in my 20's. In order to get into the best ones, you either had to know someone or go around the back and pay the meathead bouncer guarding the back door.

The '13 GT500 might be the preference although there's an abundance of '12 GT500s near invoice being advertised and x-plan is still available as well.

Unhappy

Sad to hear the GT 500 will be alotted to dealers. I was hoping any GT500 dealer could sell as many GT500 Mustangs as he wanted to sell. Second quarter production means we may not get the car untill mid summer. Not good for Minnesota residents with snow sometines coming as early as October.

Nothing really has changed here in terms of allocation from previous years. A dealer has never been able to order as many GT500s as they want and it’s still them same.

What does suck is the 2nd quarter build date. The only thing we can hope that they actually start cranking them out in April. They tend to build a bunch of GT500s at once.

Special edition or not its just a car. I wont pay msrp for anything let alone a mark up. I used to get mad at dealers for the markup but in reality its the idiots who pay it. My local stealer does the same thing and I just bust out laughing at them. If there is demand they will build them. Limited my tail. Its just marketing hype.

Of course I wouldn't mind getting mine earlier but I wouldn't start driving it with any regularity until May or June anyway.

Question

bpmurr, are you sure nothing has been changed regarding allocation of GT500 Mustangs ? It sounds like a newly certified GT500 dealer is only guaranteed to get one GT500, or does a dealer get at least one GT500 and then a choice of ordering more ? I know a dealer has to pay Ford for the right to sell the GT500 and must send a mechanic to Ford to learn how to repair and maintain the GT500.
It would appear to me a dealer would want to sell more than one GT500 to make the certification payoff.

I think you might have things confused with when dealers had to be SVT certified. Now the dealer just has to pay a fee to sell the GT500 but doesn't require special repair certification.

I deal with both a small and large Ford dealer in my area. The small dealer usually gets three GT500s a year and the larger one gets about eight.

In Canada only SVT dealers can sell the GT500's. I'm not sure if this is going to change for the '13 MY, I suspect it won't.

Undoubtedly there will be a few first-have dolts who will waste untold thousands on ADMs that will whither away in a month or two. However, given the same big-ADM soon followed by reasonable pricing paradigm for GT500's for the past 5+ years, I don't think the market overall is as gullible as it once was.

Dealers are still dealers. By that I mean dealers live up to their name and still will make deals. Use the ADMs to your advantage. Like, say to the dealer you will pay the ADM he wants on the 2013 GT500 as long as he is willing to also sell a 2013 GT at invoice. You may pay more for the GT500, but you will make a better deal on a GT that you can use as a daily driver. You and the dealer both win.

the problem is the smaller dealers who would be happy just to book a 55-60k sale don't move enough volume to get an allocation. so the bigger dealers who are more aggressive with ADM and pricing get all the units and it self perpetuates.

getting a GT at invoice is pretty much as easy as asking now that any dealer can get one if they put in a retail order.
