When Motor Trend tested the 2011 PP GT500 they got 60-0 in 103' in it, but I agree with bob about the tires. As far as I know the 2013 uses the same tires as the '11-'12 PP cars, may be why they are as close as they are even with the bigger brakes on the '13. Heck, even the temps the day they were tested could make a noticeable difference.

I think the tires have a lot to do with it. I would like to see a heads up with a set of drag radials. 650 hp is just too much for any type of street tire. You're looking at a car that will do an 80mph burn out on street tires. Traction control will only take away power at the wheels. The numbers are really what they should be with the stock tire handicap.

I didn't realize they were that close in distance. Not much of an improvement but some possibly. More likely the new package is consistently better at heat and less fade. They made note of the pads wearing a bit during their test. But anyway, you guys are right the few feet may be a number of factors. I'd say the tires but since they are the same I'm not totally convinced but they could be just a good day. But a couple feet is not that much. Just really good for such a heavy car.

The Recaros in my old '82 GT were an $1800 option. The sticker on that car was $12.6k.

The Recaros in that car were light years better than the stock seats.

Yeah I was scolded for trying to make a point that Ford was getting over on people. They are better seats for sure but I really don't think they cost ford any more money to put in the cars is all. I understand the markup for Brembo brakes but just not for the seats. Especially when you can only get cloth recaros unless you're getting a GT500.

Hell I would be happy with a V6 body with the GT500 drivetrain in it. In fact that would be ideal.

Well I'm a fan of the sleeper for sure. And my idea of a great mustang is not what the stang has evolved into. I want a stang with too much power for the chassis to handle. One reason I don't like the Boss. Power and handling is way too refined for my taste. Not dangerous enough. When I put the go pedal to the floor, I want to be scared of what will happen next. That's why I drive what I do and that's why I love my car. Because it can kill me.

Just in the interest of how sweet this car is

Heres a comparison between the GT500s motortrend figure 8 test, to some of the other cars they've tested. I know its not an end all be all test, but its cool to see the company the GT500 can hang with.

saw it mentioned on somewhere that it matched the old GT-r, so I figured I'd find the real test #s

enjoy

On any given day a '10-'12 GT500 will meet or beat the ZL1 performance. The '13 is just rubbing it in their faces

I feel the same way, i havent really researched the packages that they offered for the 2010-2012 gt500's, but i want something simple! I dont need nav, recaros, back up cameras/sensors, etc! I want a base model cobra, that way i can mod little nick nacks myself! Dont get me wrong, ill say this before other readers chime in... Theres nothing wrong with all the bells and whistles, but like you said al..... JUST GIVE ME THE POWERTRAIN!!!!!

I had a similar conversation about this with another member of TMS. The performance on these cars now days is outstanding but it comes at te cost of WEIGHT! There performance cars are sometimes whales on wheels IMO. Just my 07 GT with the suspension modifications I've done still tips the scales at 3434lbs! I'll bet the new GT500 with loaded options exceeds 4000lbs or so when given the full nav, leather etc etc etc. If left up to me I would strip all of the "luxury" out, tear down all of that excess bloat and weight, and turn my 11.9 second car into the 10's. I would also load up a Griggs system into it as soon as it became available on the market. Then again, not everyone is into "race car" as I am..

Brand new GT500? Probably but just to sell it for a profit and build another. If I had a stock 10-12 GT500 it would cost way to much to get it where I want it.

You sure about that? If so, what all have you stripped out of it and changed on it?
