GT500 head to head with ZL1
I would personally pick the Shelby over the Camaro EVERY TIME. First, it's a Mustang. Second, it's a Shelby (not like he had a lot of involvement, but still a Shelby). Third HORSEPOWER. Fourth TORQUE. Fifth ACCELERATION.
All of that said the new ZL is an amazing car and I hope that the level of handling it has inspires our beloved Ford to make the next Shelby even better in the twisties. It's a great time to be a muscle car lover in AMERICA!!!

I agree with Eric. I love love love the new Shelby GT500. What an amazing Mustang, and sure to please everyone lucky enough to own one. I can't wait to see one at my next track day, I hope I don't embarass myself gushing over it. However, that being said, I've read the comparisons and seen the videos. It appears that the Shelby exhibits some brake weakness after hard driving, which hampers lap times after the first great lap. I hope this is a pre-production issue, and nothing more.

GT500 and zl1 were on a track today in homestead in the hands of private shop owners who are very capable drivers....the zl1 even with some mods had heat soak issues the entire time. The GT500 had almost none....both braked and handled well. Looks like the mags as usual are blowing smoke and hiding the truth about the zl1...

"We are done. The ZL1 was having heat soak issues and I didn't feel heat soak with the GT500 during the sessions. I have Zero brake fade. The ZL1 has Zero brake fade.
Phinhead got it right. They were impressed with the GT500 and feel like they have some improvements to make in the cooling system on the ZL1.
I'll add more later. I did ride one session with Erik and I was impressed with the Mag ride on turn in particular to turns 6 & 7.
Van"
I was told when sharing this chart with a friend, (who drives a Camaro) that "I was surprised. Figured the smaller GT500 would win. Guess its just a muscle car. Not a sports car."
I just laughed in his face.

Not too bad for a "one-trick pony" with an ox-cart SRA, devoid of the magical, magnetic shocks the ZL1 is "blessed" with.
It should also be noted that, despite the fact that Torq's ZL1 has an aftermarket, dual-fan Afco heat exchanger, it still reportedly suffered from extreme heat soak issues; Van's GT500, with its stock HE and intercooler, experienced no such issues. Van also reported that he had zero brake fade in his GT500, and he doesn't appear to be taking it easy around Homestead.
But, hey, the Camaro contingent can take solace knowing that they have more comfortable seats (though I have to question whether they're, in fact, "better" than the Recaros found in the GT500) and the ZL1's exhaust is more subdued -- exactly what the demographic buying this kind of car is after <sarcasm>.
