This should get the Camaro 5 folks into a snit.

WOW nice comparison!! Ford has really nailed their 2011 versions of the mustangs from the V6 to the 5.0 to the GT500...All of them are GRAND SLAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll take the Vette
It simply out performs the mustang in all respects except top speed on the 1/4 mile and skid pad.
In every other performance mark the mustng lost..not sure how the victory can go to the stang in this case and in my opinion the vette looks better. And besides the GS has the side gills I designed way back in the day for my Stingray

Not to undermind the accomplishments of the 2011 GT500 PP but if you compare the 2011 GT500 PP to the 2011 GS Corvette the advantage will sway back to the Vette. The 2011 GS adds stickier tires and the magnetic ride control suspension to the mix.

The key note for the win to the Stang is the money factor - 6grand less on base and 13 grand less when optioned out.

As a side note, you can also use the Shelby day to day. I've laid down my back seat and got my moutain bike in my 2011 - only had to remove my front tire!

The vette may will be a better performer spec for spec, but are the improvements worth 13,000? Also, for 80% of the drivers who never go to the track, the cars are pretty much identical when driven on the street (as far as the performance you can ring out of them).

The key note is the improvement in handling, steering which is more responsive, and of course the power band.

Night and day. It drives great, better than the '04 Cobra and an improvement over the my '08. It feels balanced as the '04 but even better.

Without a doubt it is the best SVT I've had. I was appehensive on the wheel size but it compliments the suspension very well and after driving it several times I am no longer concerned. The one draw back was when I drove it home it was raining and lost traction a couple of times. I can't say if it was the tires or the fact I had not turned off the traction control. BTW, the '11 does not need aftermarket exhaust upgrade IMO. The exhaust note is fine, very similar to the Bullitt's.

I love the color, it is loud and obnoxious. One could say it is the perfect fit.

Not a good comparison. They should have used the 2011 Grand Sport. That also has the Goodyear G2 tires like the 2011 GT500 with the SVT PP.

Good point, I glazed right over the "2010" in the Chevy tag. I just built out a GS to the way I would have ordered one (matching the options as close to the Shelby as I could. IE no exhaust package, etc). Other than the G2's I don't see any major upgrade to the GS from 2010.
GS came to 66,470. I paid 55,705 for my Shelby. Yes the GS was a consideration for me back in Jan when I ordered. 10K is a big difference of which I don't think there is 10 grand of "better" in the GS over the Shelby.

2 weeks ago, I did the World Class driving Road Tour. For as awesome as the Ferraris, Lambos and McLaren were, I don't think they have $200,000(Gallardo LP 560-4), $300,000 (murcielago LP640) or $400,000 (599 GTB and SLR) worth of better than the Shelby.

That the Shelby is that close to the GS at the limit (where I will most likely never get to) is nice to know. My Brother in law who has a GS on order will probably never be able to out drive me in his GS, despite the technical advantage he may have. This goes for most Vette drivers out there... and Shelby drivers. 90% of us are the limiting factor in our cars. Second the road we're on as the next limiter. Which ever one gives you the bigger smile is the one you should own, cause that's the better car (for you). /soap box

What I would like to see is the GT500 vs. the M3. Since the cheaper 5.0 kept right up in the review, I'd love to see the closer in price Shelby door to door.

Usually that doesn't take much to get them riled up.

Good read, I actually already have a Z06 but an switching camps to Ford as the GT500 has always been my dream car (I drool over the 2011 SVTPP).

Handling, grip, etc, etc may look good on paper, but on the street the Corvette is massive overkill. My Z06 is my track car and I road race it pretty heavily, so I know what the car will do at 10/10th's. There is no way on the street to even experience what these cars are capable of, you'd have to be taking merges at 160 kph+ with the rear end stepping out to get the same feeling. I've also driven GT500's at the road course, and while they simply aren't as fast as the Corvette, I found that they were ALOT more fun. Gracefully drifting the rear in the turns never gets old.

I want a GT500 because I need a car perfectly suited for being a daily driver on steroids. The Corvettes are awesome, I won't deny that, but are a waste for driving on the street, aren't that comfortable and are short on cargo/interior space. Plus I keep bottoming out my **** vette on driveways and speed bumps. For most people, the GT500 is more performance than they will ever get to properly experience anyhow.

I think the 2010+ shelby's also beat the vette in interior quality as well. My 2010 Shelby's interior is way better than the interior in my friends 2005 vette and from pictures it doesn't look like the vette's interior has changed much since 2005.
