I think this is a great move on fords part. Especially considering that the GT and BOSS are only about 100-150 HP away from catching the current GT500. people have already slapped blowers on the 5.0 that surpass the current GT500's.
Go Ford!!!

I saw an interview on the speed channel with Carol Shelby. he stated that the new GT500 would come with 600 hp standard and opional 800 hp would be also advailable. The question was then asked to Carol Shelby: where will you stop at horsepower. Carol Shelbys answer was......there will be 4 lucky people that will get a 1000hp.
I for one wish I was one of those four. That would make our Boss's feel like they had V-6 in them.

The problem with the GT500 is not power. It's putting that power to the ground outside of having to use drag slicks. They need to modify the car so it can handle a larger rear tire and offer some kind of launch control. What good is another 100HP if you can't even use the 550 properly we have now?

All i can say is the 2013 GT500 had better have some eye popping horesepower numbers or the ZL1 will be all the rage. 700 horsepower would suit me just fine. Also, the GT500 needs the track key.

Ford has transformed the Mustang from a muscle car into a true sports car, with a ride so dialed-in that even even the Germans want to take it for a spin. Not forgetting the car’s roots, however, there’s still the raw and mean Shelby GT500 a car that harkens back to the glory days of Detroit.
Dunno why people people seem to forget that, this car isn't about finesse, its about accomplishing its mission with brute force.
Besides, if there is any truth to the cars being tested at the ring going in the mid 7:30s to mid 7:40s range depending on the car (red or black) they are in pretty good company considering the Ford GT(40) did the ring in a little less than 7:41
Granted, like VIR the Nurburgring is a power track so a car like the GT500 can do pretty good there.
