Ford Shelby GT500KR ‘King Of The Road’ Returns in 2008
I think it looks great! I am sad that it only has a 40hp gain. I was expecting at least 600hp. But, hey.....the odds of me owning that car are slim to none.
I wish Ford would just focus on giving us a 400hp Mach1 under $35k or boosting the power in the GT to at least 350!

Anyone working on photoshopping those pictures in different colors? I saw one pic earlier of it in blue with silver stripes but what about the other pictures and in other colors? Black without stripes, red with silver stripes, silver with black stripes, etc...
Personally I'd like to see all black with some chrome accents and things if anyone has an interest in taking on that project?

A bit more info to chew on...
Brad got this from one of his sources..
"It's tough to improve the handling of a car as nose-heavy as the GT500, but sources say that the KR's suspension is more impressive than it's power. The weight is more evenly distributed front-to-rear and the suspension is retuned, enabling it to perform better on the road course"

I dont know any specifics what so ever, but I highly doubt they change the drivetrain location, so if its indeed a different f/r distrubution, maybe rear battery location, tubular suspension parts vs the stamped steel of yesteryear... just making the front end lighter would be my guess.
Anyone notice this interesting typo towards the end of the press release?
I thought the six banger weighed in @ 210hp. Let me just stoke the fire for the flaming, could this be the new hp rating for the 3.5L V6 based stang? Or am I reading too much into a typo?
with pricing from $19,995 for a 240-hp V-6 Mustang coupe
As for KR handling and weight distribution, the CF hood probably trims some negligable amount of fat off the nose, but probably not enough to really matter. I imagine any handling benefits come from stiffer springs/shocks and rebalanced sway bars, though at some cost to ride and compliance.
Anyway, I AM IN LOVE. This thing is the best looking car since... hell, since a very long time ago. The front end is wonderful, and I'm sure there will be enough power and handling upgrades to make it worthwhiole.
If Ford is building 1000 KR's will this come out of the total number scheduled for the regular 2008 GT500's or will these be in addition to the 2008 GT500 production plans?
I sure hope these KR's take some of the pressure off the over priced (ADM) GT500 demand.

I hope they make way more than 1000....enough to bring the price down to enough us poor folks can afford them. But since that's never going to happen, I will just save all the pictures I can of it and drool over them for a while.
Hmmmm... While reading that it also made me go and put my stealership hat on for a moment... I thought to myself what exactly makes this car so "valuable" in one's eyes. There are three simple "turn-ons" to this car
1) ONLY 1,000 MADE!
2.) Gt500***KR***
3.) Improved power/handling (slight)
These of course rank from most desirable to least. I believe the dealerships will not get ANYTHING under 100,000 due to # 1 (supply constraints) IF a dealership receives one (of course everyone wont get one) they will hold on to it as long as possible and until they find the perfect buyer (one who has the deepest pockets). These KRs, in a salesmen’s eyes, are more valuable then any other Ford ever mass-produced. These will fetch more of a mark up then the Ford GTs ever could dream of. Whenever the GT came out, people knew there would be several thousands of these eventually roll off the assembly line so they could wait for the price to come down a little bit. There will be no price reductions. (**oOooooKkk.. MAYBE a dealership will give one to around MSRP to a VERY valuable customer who buys MANY MANY cars from them.. But even then, this is VERY doubtful**)
So, my theory is Ford, knowing they will only produce a VERY VERY limited production of these vehicles, might as well add on the ADM to the base price of the KR. Why couldn't Ford slap a $80,000 price sticker on it? IT WILL SELL for that price! NO question about it! So, if they were to charge this ridiculous price to this car, why not and make it as great as it possible can be? If they hold true and make it the TRUE "KING OF THE ROAD" why not pull out all the bells and whistles and make it that KR like it should be?
This is what they could do
A) Take the Ford GT motor out of the parts bin and slap it under the hood
B) IRS
C) Send it off to Roush, Saleen, or some other HI-PO racing shop to tweak the suspension to the max
These three modifications are achievable.
So, in conclusion, Ford might as well go full-throttle on the KING OF THE ROAD and make it just that. Whenever I heard the report of the GT500KR I got all giddy inside and was looking forward seeing it roll off the assembly line. However, what's the point? Chances of someone on this message board getting a GT500KR are practically non-existent. Even if someone had the pocket money, finding one that's not already been sold will be a hard challenge.
So Ford should either:
A) Charge a LARGE price tag from the window (and include all the 'goodies' listed above)
B) Make more the 1,000
If they don't do either one, what's there to get excited about?

So I don't understand, is this an option or is this replacing the GT500?
Sorry, but with premium gas headed for $4 / gal this summer and dealer ADMs, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the GT-500KR.
On the plus side, as AFBLUE said, the "more money than brains" crowd has a new carrot to chase which may cause a big drop in ADMs on the crappy old and out of date, yesterday's news GT-500 making it more attainable to ordinary Mustang fans.

For us normal Mustang fans maybe they will at least let the hood + pins make it to production and then let Kevin sell us some later.
