I've seen plenty of people go for extended periods of time with 9+ psi.

It's all about how safely it's tuned.

@GPStang06

What boost are you running? Why is the Roush SC so weak compared to Vortechs, ProChargers, etc?

It's somewhere around 6psi I believe. The Roush unit is a pretty small roots blower in comparison to the Whipple's and Kenne Bell's (1.4L I think). Roush sets their tunes conservative as well to maintain the 3/36000 factory warranty.

I am running Roush's upgrade pulley/tune and those numbers I got are pretty good for a Roush blower. With only a custom tune I can probably get 400 to 415 but not much more without doing anything else.

It's not weak, it will last longer.
If you want to order the warranty delete pkg. you can always have more power.
It all depends on how long you want to keep your engine.

The Roushcharger is a 1.6 or 1.8 liter if I remember correctly.

Comparatively, the Whipple and Saleen Series VI are 2.3s and the KBs come in 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8

Also there is the difference between the design as Roushcharger is a (modified) Roots style http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_blower

while the others are twin screw. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin-sc...e_supercharger

People can say what they want when it comes to dragstrip performance - out on the street on a daily driver, a properly tuned Roushcharger is nice and quick

I agree a safe tune is KEY but 9psi with a centrifugal that only makes 1psi at WOT at 2500rpm vs a turbo that has all 9 psi by 2800rpm where the centrifugal would be luck to see 3 on a good day are 2 different stories.

As an example - Look at any back to back test of a Centrifugal vs a turbo on the same engine at the same PSI. While the turbo typically picks up 5% to 8% more power ( so like 20 more at teh same boost) the torque is usually more like 40% better witht he turbo. A vortech or procharger at 9 psi is lucky to see 390 to 420 ft/lbs and a turbo sees more like 490 to 510

With my procharger I made 523rwhp and 493rwtq, this was at 11 psi, biggest pulley on it.

Not bad for some light mods (CAI, Tune, Mufflers). Using a 15% drivetrain loss, this is 325hp and 347ft-lbs at the flywheel:

That's fine, if that's what you want. To me, even a properly sized turbo has too much lag for me. I love the way a centri "builds" boost. I'm not saying a centri is "better", because it's not. It's just a personal preference.

Still, with a good tune, even a turbo-charged or posi-displacement blower can last a long time. Even at 9psi....

That doesn't look right to me. Aren't the HP and TQ curves always supposed to cross at 5250 RPM?

What gear did they do the run in?

It's right--the scales on the right and left are different.

2006 GT Auto w/ JDM Stage 2 Saleen

JDM's kit (maf, injectors, air intake, 3.4 pulley) along with Corsa axlebacks

First pull off canned tune-- 449rwhp

Final pull with refined tuning and dialing it in a little "safer" A/F-- 441rwhp.
