Water drainage holes in the doors - what are those plastic things?

going back to the original question: those plastic things are the "drain plugs" that clog the drains and make the door fill up with water ... if they fall out, they are doing you a favor

John! The purpose of the drain plugs is to prevent unwanted water from entering inside the cabin... As mentioned in previous posts above, the drain plugs are recommended to be maintained/checked periodically by removing them to make certain there's no water build-up inside the doors...

interesting .... mine have been gone for years and I've never had any issue with water in the cabin ... but my car hasn't been outside in a hurricane yet, so maybe that's when they make a difference

You're exactly 110% spot on... As long as your car isn't exposed to the elements outdoors for prolonged periods of time, it does indeed make all the difference in the world...
However, I would still recommend checking the drain plugs following multiple washing sessions, just for additional piece of mind...
