This is the first I've heard of a master cylinder leak! I ran right out to check mine (4k miles on 06 GT) and it's dry as a bone. Is this an 05 problem? Perhaps a TSB correction in 05, no problem for 06?

I'd like to know if anyone has info on this...

The '06 has it too. I used plumber's tape around the threads of the reservoir, and it seemed to help. I remember reading somewhere that the new generation (2004?) F150 truck had this problem, and after a year or so of fielding complaints, Ford issued a revised cap.

Went out and checked mine also. Looks just like the pics mikem posted. So the leak is coming from the cap?! I'll have to try some plumbers tape.

As far as I can tell, it's coming from the cap. Atleast mine is anyway. Every '05/'06 that I saw at a local dyno outing had this problem; probably 7 atleast.

Thanks,

Tom

So most are leaking from the cap? Mine seems to be leaking from the center seam. The area around the cap is dry.......

the leak is from the cap and thread sealing tape would definitely help. I've observed that from like month 1.

So what is leaking in our cars? I am confused as to where I am supposed to look.

I have not heard of this problem before.

I've had some fluid on the upper seam of the reservoir. My **** detailing has kept the slight amount from going any farer. The cap does not seem to seal tight and the reservoir may just be a bit too full. Although it is at the full line, it is fuller than any other brake fluid reservoir I have serviced. Therefore I see no problem removing a small amount to lower the level some and see if that would stop the leak.

I dig it, its hard to always know what impression people are trying to give over the net, in written words.

Anyway, I think it's the cap too since my leaking has stopped or atleast has slowed down since I wrapped the threads. This is a big concern though, as I had a leaking master cylinder on my '92 that went unnoticed for a while, and promptly ate all the paint off all over the place around it. Can you say "rust overnight"??

So I just went out to look at mine and could see a little grime on the top of the reservoir and some more around the center seam. I wiped it off and removed some fluid from the reservoir to see if that helps. I'm going to the dealer for an oil change (only $9.95 for life) on Wednesday and I'm going to see what they have to say about it.

You can bet I'll be keeping my eye on this problem. Brake fluid is very effective at removing paint. Maybe switching to synthetic brake fluid would at least protect the paint job...
