something is dead plz help, battery or alt

2006 gt has sat off and on for about 2 months, wont's start it must be jumped off. I drove about 65 miles at 70 mph or higher this weekend to try to charge the battery and when i got home i rolled up the windows and the voltage gauge moved down alot, after the windows were up i pulled the switches again and the voltage meter moved way down again. turned the car off tried to crank and nothing....I do not have a multimeter to check the alt but does this sound familiar to anyone else on what may be happening,,,thanks

Factory batteries are usually only good for about 5 yrs. I believe O'Reilly's or Autozone can check your alternator.

What Charlie said. You can take your battery out and take it up to autozone for testing as well. Or if you jump start it again just drive up there leave it running and they can check your charging system. I believe they will change your battery right there in the lot for you if its bad. New battery is right arounfd 100 bucks

alternator

some of us have had bad alternators, the gauge will be at 0 when running but not for long, it will die very shortly !

Good Morning,

I have been having a problem ever since I recieved my car from the factory and still mhavent figured it out yet. I have an 05 GT ordered from ford and between then and now, I have ben through 4 batteries and just lost my 3rd alternator. After the second Battery, I replaced it with a Optima yellow top battery and that lasted about 2 years before it had a bad cell and was replaced with another. I have looked around and seen where the interior water leak can cause corrosion on the connectors in the fuse box on the passenger side but that appears clean but the plug next to it had some corrosion. Cleaned that up but still having problems. Can anyone give some other advice on this?

I also suffer from the malfunctioning guage clusters for fuel and engine Temp but have a replacement guage cluster out of an 07 GT to replace it once it is reprogramed.

Car ordered Nov. 2004
Car Built Dec. 2004
Delivered Jan 2005

COL. is this your daily driver or weekend fun car? If you don't drive it very often I would suggest getting a battery tender and use it when ever your not going to drive the car for more than a few days

This is my daily driver but it only has 66,000 miles on it. These are easy miles and there are nothing added to the system as I have removed the XM radio.

I've had this issue as well and have not found a cause. If I let the car sit more then 2 days it will not have enough juice to start. I jump it and it starts right up and I drive it to work which is about 7 miles from my house and it will start right up when I leave. I've bought a Battery Tender solar charger and set it on the space behind the back seats where the rear speakers are and plug it into the power outlet in the center console and have not had an issue since. The charger cost me about $100 but it's been well worth it.

Here's a link to a thread on another forum , in post #3 is the link to the ford TSB. Read the whole thread , also the seams may need sealant and the TSB doesn't address it.
