First, welcome to the forums!

Now then... Your '08 carries a 5 year/60K warranty. You've got the miles, sure, but you're past the 5 years by 2.

Ford pretty much doesn't have to do anything for you. You might want to talk to a dealer about this, and perhaps even Deysha, but 2 years is 2 years.

If they ain't dealing with these aluminum hoods, the legion of failures those have been, what do you suppose the chances are they're going to do anything other than rebuild it and make you pay for that?

And just to let ya know... I have 126,000+ miles on my differential. It has been drained at about 70K and refilled with Royal Purple because of the right rear bearing on the axle going out. And when it was taken apart, I inspected it. No metal of any kind. Beautiful (if smelly) clean fluid came out, no indications whatsoever of any problems. Everything inside it looked as perfect as if it was factory new. And since then, no issues (not even the cover leaking! Very glad of that.)

I don't think Ford builds them bad as a rule. Ford rear diffs are really reliable, as far as I know.

You just got a little unlucky, like I did with the bad bearing. I just got it fixed, because out of warranty. I would do the same with the gears (and likely do it myself, to be honest, or just get another one from a wreck, get it inspected, throw it in under the car, and motor on.) I don't think there's going to be much, if any, to 'fire back at Ford with.'

You say you don't abuse the car, and that's fine. But if it got into too high water, or somehow the fluid leaked out and you don't know about it... there's the reason it could have destroyed itself.

I wish you luck, truly. And again, welcome!

just bought a used rear end for mine for 550 was 202 for shipping from iowa to south Carolina. the rear I bought came out of a 2011 with 30k on it also has a 373 gear. I cant wait to get it and install it. I tore my rear myself. I guess that's what I get for hitting 100mph in 3rd gear then slamming it into 2nd. what a dumb a$$ I was. I didn't do it intentionally. I was trying to hit 4th. I really don't know how I did it but since then I hear a wimping noise coming from behind. replaced every bearing I could still didn't fix. now new rear end is on the way. well new to me... you know what they say.. you gotta pay to play right...

whew- at 100 mph, your driveshaft would be around 6k, clutch disk was probably spinning over 8k, glad it didnt pop- i'm asuming you didnt let the clutch out, as it likely woulda popped the flywheel or engine, and skidded the rear tires pretty hard... I dont understand why that woulda hurt the rearend gears though- tho only 'load' would be from the synchronizers spooling up the clutch disk... nothing loadwise though compared to a hard downshift or stepping on the gas in reverse...
Anyways will be eager to hear your impressions on the 3.73s... Ive been thinking about it a little- mines almost ten yrs old now and just got a tuner for it- really adds some 'spunk', although I think much has to do with just throttle scaling, still even more fun to drive

edit- just read you had 4.10s in there- man, that clutch disk must been screaming...cant believe it didnt blow or melt the input shaft /pilot bearing/etc... bet the input side of the tranny had to be turning 9k!

dont feel bad- i missed SECOND at the dragstrip, ground the heck out of it was pulling so hard it actually bent the shifter as it pulled out of my hand as it popped out of gear and ground...luck only kept the forks from breaking, driving home, had to pop the boot out as the lever was bent enough it was rubbing keeping from first and second I put a 09 shifter in ($15) night and day improvement
