Really Ford? Really?!

So yesterday i was driving and noticed that "check charging system" came up on the info center. I figured that since my car only had 11000 miles on it that it was just a minor thing and i would take it to the dealer when i got around to it if it didnt go away. This morning, though, my radio shut off on my way to work and on the radio screen it said low battery. I left work and headed straight for the dealership and literally as i was turning into the parking spot at the dealer the entire car shut off. We had to jump it just to roll up my window and move it over to the service department. WHAT THE ****?!?! 11,000 miles and my car just dies on me? Has anyone had this problem? I am assuming it is the alternator and it should be under warranty since its an '08 with only 11,000 miles. Anyone have experience with this problem? The service was closed today(sunday) so i left it out front and hopefully ill be getting a call tomorrow.

I'm sure they'll take care of you under warranty - especially with so few miles.

(I hope so! My 08 hasn't hit 9k just yet.)

Probably a faulty battery.

Alternator sounds like it (or a ground issue) has checked out. Typically if it is a battery, car will run ok as the alternator will keep the systems up and running. Anyway that is wqhat your description of the problem leads me to believe. Also that is what warranty protection is for-there are hundreds of thousands of parts made-no matter how good quality control is, there are bound to be failures. Hell, even Jap cars have warranties, and they are perfect, right?

Yup. Ended up being the alternator. Props to Gwinnett Place Ford though for getting it fixed so quick with no problems regarding the warranty. We left it there last night as the service department was not open on sunday but it was ready by noon! Great service and I have my baby back already

I got the "low battery" message on my radio when I was 40 miles from home. I figured I would need a tow anyway so I decided to hump it back to my house. Got on the highway and made a dash for it. First the A/C panel stopped working, then the gauges stopped working then everything electrical stopped working except the engine. I got to be about 15 miles from home and the car started to sputter as the charge on the battery ran out. I got towed the rest of the way. Got home, charged the battery completely then drove to the dealership the next day. I drove that 25 miles on just the battery alone. It was the alternator

My 07 GT did the same thing when it was only a year old with about 8K miles on it. Rainy day, driving to work, and everything started losing power one at a time. Radio, heater, guages, etc. When the windshield wipers quit, I pulled off immediately since it was pouring down rain. Called Ford Roadside Assistance and it was towed to the dealer. Culprit was a dead alternator that was replaced under warranty. New alternator has been fine.

Had something similar happen in my diesel, given the 2 huge battery's though, I was able to make it home with some VERY dim lights, no instruments, radio, etc....
