Questions on TSB service...

As the title states, i have a few questions about the procedures of getting TSBs fixed.
With all the rattle TSBs do they need to here the rattles or do they take your word for them and fix them upon request?

I ask this b/c before some came out i took my car in for service and asked if they could fix the rattles. After waiting 2 hours with no one telling me anything i walk back to the service area and they said they are still driving around to locate the problems, about 40min later (and 36 miles) they come back and said they didn't hear any. That is very believable b/c they are not always there. I was just quite ****ed they used 2gal and i waited almost 3hrs tell me they can't fix anything. So the rattles remain but not all the time.

Also, with the exhaust rattle, does it matter if you have aftermarket mufflers? will they fix either way?

I ask now so i can try to everything fixed with this recall, but only if they don't have to drive all over to find some rattles.

I don't really know the answer, except I wonder how they could fix a rattle if they don't hear it and hence can't pinpoint the source?

The symptoms need to be present in order for a fix (as described by the TSB) to be done. TSBs simply describe the error correction procedure based on observable, repeatable symptoms. Intermittently rattles might be temperature related or make themsleves known on certain road surfaces. If you identify those conditions, it will make your service visit more productive.

Regarding the correction of exhaust system noise, if the noise is being caused by the muffler changeout, you might be charged labor to get that adjusted.

Good luck!

Maybe it was just my dealer but I always just printed out the TSB, took it to my dealer, handed them the prinout and said "my car is doing this/has this problem and I need you to fix it". Thats all they ever seemed to need and they went ahead and fixed everyone of the TSB things I brought them.
