No more 3rd gear...

05 gt auto trans. shifts ok into 2nd 4th and 5th, but as of 30 mins ago, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd there is no real engagement and the motor almost just revs freely for a few seconds before it grabs 4th. i would think the clutches for 3rd gear are slipping?

i had the tranny flushed at 50k miles. it has been acting up occasionally (rough shifts, revs spike in between shifts) since about 65k miles. ive been running bama tunes for the last 3 months (often shifted very rough into 3rd at part throttle but otherwise it shifted fine with the tune), just 2 weeks ago i drained and filled it with new mercon v and it drove fine after. 86k miles on the car currently. any ideas anyone? im afraid im f***ed... :/

No sure how the tune affects the tranny, but I've had good luck with a tranny filter kit and Lucas treatment. Sounds like maybe a sticking valve but don't quote me, I don't really know too much about autos

I saw your post lookin for a 3650...So is it completely dead now? You might try hittin' the junk yards for a 3650.

Yep. A rebuild is approx 2400, while I can do the swap myself for less than 2 grand. Plus I've always wanted a manual so there's no question what to do. Now I'm just lookin for 3650s haha

Ouch. I knew it'd be a lot, but that's more than I expected. My auto has been acting weird for a while now, but I've been hoping that it's just my imagination. Like you though, I intend on swapping in a manual when the time comes.

I've got almost all the parts I need rounded up. My only question is where/how do you guys think the best place/way to get the PCM reprogrammed would be?

That's weird... all they have to do is change a few things in the tune for a standard. Idle speed and tcm should be all I can think of..

I'm sure you could find one on the web. Most u pull it's that I've been to dont have many cars as new as ours. I'd say the web is the best bet. Maybe even the dealer....
