My Shaker 500 is now an expensive clock.

Has anyone else had this happen?
On March 10th, I had a factory certified tech, recommended by my dealer, install Triptunes and add it to my Shaker 500 w/ Sirius Satellite Radio. The radio worked great until the morning of March 14th when I turned the radio on and only the clock came on and went off after about ten seconds. No radio or any of the other bells and whistles. No control over the radio other than being able to display the clock again for another ten seconds after it goes out.
This is obviously a warranty issue [this is a 2008 with about 800 miles on it]. I checked the battery cables (they were tight) and the car fires right up without any hesitation.

This is the kind of stuff that causes the general public (non-Ford people) to hate Fords. The Shaker has been an iffy unit since day one. We're still having these issues in the '08 model year.

It's in the dealership's hands now and that was one of the possibilities they advised me of. Anybody know who makes these things for Ford? JBL maybe? For that matter, are the Shaker 500 and the 1000 made by different companies or are they actually both Ford "in-house" products? Sorry to stray off topic. If I missed a thread that answered these questions, lemme know.

Delphi made the head units (in conjuction with Ford) and Visteon the speakers if I'm not mistaken..

Okay...the dealer had the same tech attempt to repair the wiring from the Shaker 500 to the Triptunes module. The dealership told me that they had fixed the problem but if it happened again they would have to order a new Triptunes module and wiring harness.
It happened again when I showed up to pick up my Mustang; no radio just a clock. The dealership has ordered a new Triptunes module.
The moral of the story: if your car was not equipped with Triptunes when you ordered it be wary of having it installed down the road. I'll reserve judgement on Triptunes until this problem is resolved.

They're buying their radio's from a company that's filed chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005. I wouldn't expect the quality to be that good.

That explains a lot. In fairness though, I'll wait until this episode is over before I lay blame.

This is why, when reading on the issues on the Shaker System in 2005, I opted out for the standard stereo single cd package figuring that I could get a better system for the mustang elsewhere. Who wants to have a problem with a car audio system while they are driving?

Ford doesn't give you a whole lot of flexibility to do that if you really want certain options but not others. In some cases you are forced to buy packages to get these options. The Shaker 500 is the standard audio system in the premium GT. I'd priced out a deluxe with my wish list versus a premium with the options I wanted as well as a lot of stuff I could live without. The premium was a better deal; at least the way Ford has it set up.

Personally, I'd use it as an excuse to put an aftermarket one in...

Opt for the Nav unit. Its a FAR better head unit and built by Pioneer not Delphi and it shows.....

Pioneer just released a Double DIN bluetooth unit that is not DVD or NAV, filling a MUCH needed niche in the marketplace. Just an FYI for anyone looking for a nice looking, cleaner sound source without the functions that you may not want.

I've got NAV in my truck and my Acura and they are great for those applications, but I never drive my Mustang in palces where I'd need NAV and I'm not going to be watching DVDs in a small coupe, so I didn't want to pay a grand + for something I'd never use.

This seems to be a case of a bad triptunes module screwing up an otherwise functioning Shaker 500 unit. I'll find out eventually. Thanks for the info on the Pioneer system. When the warranty runs out, I'll get creative. I agree that the Nav unit is a spendy option for what it offers in the Mustang. [Don't get me wrong; it looks cool but I just want a decent radio.]

Not to repeat myself but has anyone had any problems adding Triptunes Advanced to their Shaker 500 system?

I've been reading this post.I wish I could help. My car came with triptunes and Sirius from factory. I did have to have he head unit replaced due to skipping mp3's and no sub output. At the time I didn't know it, but I couldn't control the ipod at all. It was plug it in and let it go! It sucked until dealer told me I had a bad head unit. once they put in a new one I found I had total control of the ipod.

Did you try to have them replace the head unit and triptune module together? I also know they had to reinitialize the head unit to get it to function correctly.Did they do that? Just thinking out load.
