Metal Shaking at 2500-3500 RPM???

hello,

in 1st or 2nd, during modest acceleration, i can hear what sounds to me like metal vibrating quickly coming from the exhaust at approximately 2500-3500 RPM... it doesn't sound normal to me. i was wondering if anyone knew what this was or have heard it? it happens less as the car warms up, or so it seems to me...

Check your shields on the converters.

That's exactly the same noise I have, usually happens right around 3k or so, more so when the motor is cold. I'm still trying to track it down.

Some 05's came with '2 bolts missing'
from the bottom of the trans to engine separator shield.

I know for sure my '06 has those bolts, I checked that first. I might be putting headers on over the winter so I will see if the problem goes away after doing that.

One thing I just thought of, my problem didn't start until I changed the mufflers. I probably just need to re-fit the exhaust a little bit and it will be ok.

You need to put a small rubber washer/bushing between the plate and bell housing (I also put a metal washer with the rubber one to give more space):

FYI there is a exhaust TSB for this also.. just take it in if it is under warranty.

I had the exact same problem. However, I used a little bit of silicone RTV instead of rubber washers.

There are some other posts around that talk about this rattle. Mine also showed up after I changed the axle-backs.

I haven't done anything to mine (exhaust wise) and it's still rattles.

I had a "sympathetic" vibration that was real annoying, the TSB took care of it; made a huge difference.

Get the TSB done. You'll notice an improvement.

Hmm, I may have to get under my car and work with it a bit tomorrow.

Here's the TSB. Sorry I didn't post it sooner...

I picked up some rubber washers from Home Depot today and put them in place on those two lower bolts, noise is gone!!! Thank you very much for that idea MTAS!

I already removed the rubber and metal hangers from the h-pipe in an attempt to get rid of the noise, but it appears the noise I had was from the engine spacer plate. I wasn't going to pull the trans just to fix that, the rubber washers will do just fine.

I have just stared noticing the same thing but I thought it sounded like a quiet popping and I was afraid it was pinging or detonantion. It happens exactly as you say though on my 1-2 or 2-3 shifts under moderate acceleration. I think it goes away when it's warmed up.

If it were detonation wouldn't I hear it when I get closer to redline as well?
