Just hit 30k miles, got quotes from several dealers...

Service departments want me to pay $400-450 to get the 30k mile schedule maintenance done, which IMO is on the overly pricey side. Additionally, my car's been out of warranty for almost two years now.

Now, under normal circumstances, I'd probably take it to the dealer (or more likely, an independent mechanic) and have the service done. However, I have a 2011 GT on order, and I'm finding it rather difficult to justify spending the amount above or close to it on a car that I won't even have anymore in the next two months.

Also, over the last several months I've only been putting around 200-250 miles a month on the car.

So...I've been mulling over my options, which so far are:

- Take it to a dealer (unlikely)
- Independent mechanic (possible, depending on how much they charge)
- replace fuel & air filters and change oil myself
- Do nothing

I'm open to suggestions if anybody has them.

If your Trading it in, it is likely the Dealer will service the vehicle before Reselling. They are not going to give you any more on trade for servicing in my opinion. I would roll with it.

Agreed... I did my oil change last month (myself) but that's because I went to the track, (only cost $20 for motorcraft oil and filter at Autozone). For less than 1,000 miles of driving between now and trade-in... Don't bother... Do oil, and if you really want, filters... You're basically buying them for the dealer at this point.

If you are trading the car when you get the new one, don't bother.
I am surprised you even asked the question.

Just a waste of $$$$, no one unless you sell it privately will give you more $$ for the service being done.

Put the $400 aside for modding the 2011 GT

I agree with the others. If trading it in soon, do nothing.

Those scheduled service deals are total hose jobs anyway! Fuel filter, cabin air filter, oil change/filter, and some quick inspections (brakes, exhaust, etc) for $400?

You can do these all yourself for well under $100 in parts, and if you really want to go all out head down to the local garage for an oil change with free 30-point inspection, it's about the same thing.

Of course in your situation I'd go with the others advice and do nothing. $400 will get you some nice new catback exhaust or a hand held tuner for your 2010!

Tim

I'm with everyone else, if you're trading it then don't bother.

But I do have a question... are you saying you've gone 30k miles without changing your oil?

I can see maybe going that long without a fuel filter change (although I did mine at 20k) but I change 30k miles without an oil change?

Err, no. I've kept up with oil changes, services, etc. according to the scheduled maintenance guide (up until now). To clarify, my vehicle just hit 30000 miles on the odometer over a week ago.
