Inconsistent Idle

My car started idling inconsistently between 500 and 800 rpms, going up and down. Sometimes stalling when in reverse or hard turns when parking. My friend says it could be the MAF sensor. Any opinions?

Have you recently disconnected the battery? Mine did something like that when I skipped the "learning" procedure after disconnecting battery and resetting computer. It went away after letting the car relearn the idle and fuel trims as instructed by the manual.
