high speed hood flutter

Has anyone noticed their stock hood fluttering at high(way) speed? I had a very noticeable amount of vibration near the front edge of the hood. Does anyone know the maximum speed for these hoods?

My '05 GT, hood was all over the place, thought it was going to fly off. My '07 GT/CS is like a rock, no movement at all.

Mine was solid until I put my MRT hood struts on. I think since I didn't get the alignment quite right when I bolted the hood back up it's now fluttering as well... makes me nervous at 100mph + speeds.

Why has this not been fixed at the factory yet...three years into production? They obviously know about it (GT500).

i solved that problem even before i changed the hood and got hood pins installed, by simply adjusting the rubber stoppers and raising them a bit..
the hood was then difficult to shut, but it sure as heck never fluttered anymore, even at 140mph
in any case, i do feel alot better now with hood pins.. kinda sets my mind at ease knowing i have pins holding the hood down with that much pressure building up beneath the hood at such speeds

Adjust the bump stops and add hood pins if you are still nervous. All I worry about now is my hood scoop flying off at those speeds.

I adjusted mine like what's noted here on the boards yesterday and just now got back from a little test run to 105, no problems!

Greg, did you screw the stops out (counterclockwise) to stop the flutter? It seems that would be the solution so that the stops contact the hood.

I get a little bit of flutter at speeds over 75 and need to make the adjustment also.

Thanks.

I am looking to get a fiberglass hood but I do not like hood pins. Is there such a thing as invisible (under the hood) hood pins or something??

Yeah everyones hood does that, but driving at 120 why would I be looking at my hood anyway. It doesnt bother me. These hoods can handle atleast the 145+ that I have gotten my car up to, apc makes a carbon fiber hood that mustangsunlimited (mustangsunlimited.com) carries they also carry alot of other brands for all years if anyone needs anything (I live 25 minutes away from the CT location, just let me know and I can pick up and arrange shipping for you insted of paying for theirs, and also check out what you are buying before shipping.) I can also work with their prices, and dont expect anything in return, but a thank you.

you can also change your hood latch according to my body shop

She's only been in to have parts painted and intalled, knock on wood.

I never had any shake in my hood in my 2005 or my 2007 mustang. I also have a Steeda cowl hood and I have no shake without hood pins.

The GT500 has vents that we do not have. My '07 shakes near the windshield. My '65 does not have that problem and it is fiberglass with hood pins!

Shaun maybe you have never noticed it. Its not like its moving more than maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch it happens on these stock hoods because of the lip that they have. The lip allows air and airpressure to gather under the hood, going faster forces more air in. The more air the more it shakes. Therefore all non-modifyed (without vents/pins) stock hoods on the 05-07's will flutter.

Both my '05 and now my '07 flutter as well....particularly on the driver's side. You can feel the play if you "gently pull" up on each front corner of the hood...more play on my driver's side. I have adjusted the rubber bumpers and it helped some - but it's really inherent in the design of these hoods.

My experience exactly. When it's windy, it's even worse. Just took a trip today and it was really bothering me. I had adjusted the stops before, but I guess it wasn't enough. I checked the driver's side today and it had the same play in it HOTLAP described. I'm going to adjust that one some more.

BTW, Will this cause the hood to stick up past the fender?
