Maybe if we can get enough details to Ford we could get a revision in the works...to me its minor bug on the most enjoyable car Ive ever owned, but it needs a redesign or the 07/08/09 owners will need to deal with it too.

Ive only fought to fill mine twice, got gas all over the new car twice and my leg once...I think a design change might be worth Ford considering on this otherwise incredible car :)

I don't think it's a big issue to turn the gas nozzle upsidedown to fill the tank and would never take the car in to the dealer to fix it. I know that isn't the way it is supposed to work but if this is the biggest issue I ever have with my car I will be a happy camper! JMO~

I feel the same way- BUT think Ford should not leave it as-is forever...
I wouldnt take mine to the dealer either as Ive been disappointed all but one time that Ive had vehicles 'dealer serviced'. I'm afraid I'd buy the parts myself rather than let it get messed up. Wifes windstar fuel pump failed when new and they literally dropped/bent the almost full tank, and had to replace it...lucky they didnt burn the place down...cant see if any of the lines above it are bent up or not...

only worry about the upside down nozzle is some get REALLY close to the paint- and the gas running down the side of the car leaves stains to clean off.

I have never had a problem with the nozzle not shutting off when the tank is full having it upsidedown. YES, Ford should fix the problem it has been going on long enough.

Hmmmm.... I'd be unhappy at having to turn the gas nozzle upside down. Small potatoes, but should be unnecessary.

My car was built 7-05 (the last week of the '05s!) and has never had a problem with fuel at all. (except burning lots of it! )

Maybe it's because my car was built on a Wednesday?

I'd have the dealer replace the fuel tank. They know of the issue and should take care of it.

I would have a real problem with the puking if it were not for the fact that it runs out the inside of the fender rather than all over my clean car.

hmm...either mines missing a drain or just pukes BAD, because the first time at least a cup-maybe a pint of gas surged out of mine, poured all over the ground- down side of the car, some ran out from under car but most flowed out of the bottom filler door lip.
the second fillup was more of a 'slosh' that also ran down the car, but not nearly as much...but it got me and stunk up the car.

My 2006 definitely has fill-up problems. Once it hits around half a tank it starts clicking off real easy. I've tried every trick mentioned so far and no luck, my patience usually runs out at almost 3/4 a tank!

I'm going to try to take this in to get it checked out, but I'm not expecting a great customer service experience.

does anyone have the facts on the 'tsb tank' vs the redesigned tank that was supposed to be used after last April? Are they one and the same, or did they just use the new one for those that had trouble? I'm seeing no TSB serviced cars, yet still 06's- makes me wonder if the tsb tank became the 'standard' tank last year or not...

You're missing a choice... HAD issues, TSB fixed. I don't think I see that choice.

EXACTLY!

Mine had the issues, tank was replace and I have never had the problem since.

On another note, why is it sooooo many people think it is the car and not the pump. I only say this because I have experienced the same problem with all of my cars at some gas stations. Doesn't happen all the time, just some times. I use to work at a gas station for a while and quite often the pump was to blame. Not saying there isn't an issue with the tank in the stang, but some people seem to complain when it happens to them once out of a dozen fill ups. Next time, try a different pump.

If it always happens or happens most of the time, then yes, you should get the tsb done.

Because it's too many cars at too many pumps to be the pump. I have never had that happen a single time to a single car (mine or otherwise) except my Mustang... and at a couple of stations, it happened EVERY time.

In this case, it IS the car... but like I said, mine is okay now, and that choice isn't available in the survey.

I guess you didn't read my entire post. I was talking about the people who complain about it happening once out of like 12 times they fill up. So, chill, relax and realize you were not including in what I had to say. eace:

I have a '05 and '06 GT's they both have the fill problem. I have had the TSB performed on the '05 but not the '06. For what its worth I just fill them both slowly and don’t seem to have any problems. But when I put the pump on ignore and pump away I get the dreaded “Kick Backâ€. Now I just take my time filling them up.

OOPS

any mods that can edit poll questions???

BTW, I got fillup #3 last night- BP station 10 miles away...never heard a gurgle, clicked off and only spit enough to run out the inside drain...so I'm at 33% sucess rate of buying gas without rinsing down the side of the car I'll go there next time and try my luck again- I had nozzle 'normal' and set on lowest setting- took a while to fill.

Considering we have to fill up every mustang at sometime or another, you would of thought we would of heard of it or experienced it once. Neither my father or myself have had any problems, and I've never filled a new one up that did it I have not seen one in the shop getting a new tank either. Just the front suspension clunk last year and a couple convertible tops. I have run across many a bad fuel pump over the years though.

I only have problems with some pumps, not all. I just turn the nozzle over. I had about the same amount of problems with my Honda, and my friend has a similar problem with his work truck. I think most newer cars/trucks have similar problems.

I must have dumped out a half gallon when I filled up (upside down) Friday.

Its embarassing when People look at you like you lost your mind filling up upside down.

I had major issues...took like 5 minutes just to get a single gallon in the tank. Then I took it in when the TSB came out. They replaced the tank and I haven't had problems since.
