Gas Tank Issues after new tank install

Are other folks still having the fill up issues? Click on-click off as you fill up and it takes forever to fill your tank? I am on my second tank and the FORD dealer says its a normal thing and its due to different pump nozzles not the tank. I plan on writing Ford directly about this. My car was produced Apr 05. R/Mike

Yes. It depends on the gas station and the type of pump handles they utilize. When I have the "instant shut-off" problem, I simply rotate the handle upside down (or nearly upside down). Once the fuel starts flowing, I can usually rotate the handle back to normal and it keeps pumping. I live with it.

There's a ton of posts on this, I'd search and find them for you, but you can do it just as easily. Look through my old posts, I've got a thread on what I did to fix the problem for me.

Yup, some pumps pump faster than others...I think that's the problem with mine. It's okay though, it's Ford engineering...

Ford wants you to think it's a problem with the fueling station's pump pressure and/or nozzles... but it's not. Real problem is the design of the inlet tube and the S197 saddle tank. How can they blame fueling nozzles and expect customers to seek out the few select pumps which may allow fuel fill?

I've had mine in twice for fuel fill problem and already have Ford Engineering involved. Check out my recent link regarding this issue:

I've had maybe too incidents filling mine at home in 3 years. I drive to Fargo Nd. last weekend, on the first fill, the pump keeps clicking off until I pulled the fill nozzle about halfway out of the filler hole. Go figure?
