Question Front spring groan

My 05 has had the upper strut bearing tsb done for a year now. What happens though is when I make standstill or very low speed turns ,like backing out of my driveway, the front springs make a groaning noise. I had the car in for warranty work on my fuel pump last week and had a tech see if he could find the source while I turned the steering back and forth slowly. He said he could feel the vibration/groan when touching the coil spring but not the top of the strut tower. Since I needed the car, I left without them checking any further but the service work order is still open. My guess without removing the strut is maybe the spring seat isolator, which is there as I checked when they performed the tsb, is too hard similar to poly bushings that make noise when dry.
Any comments or similar conditions? It always helps to be informed before going back to the dealer.

i havent had my 06 GT in for any work but i think i get that same noise. i heard it and tested in a clear parking lot. when i turned while idleing or with a little throtle. i get the noise. i plan to bring it in to get it looked at but if you get it looked at b4 me, post what they said is the cause. i hope its something simple and under warrenty.

I thought it was my power steeing at first but my friend said it sounded like something rubbing but im not sure what it is. my powersteering is at the correct level

Same problem...

I have the same issue, the groaning at low speeds while turning. Seems to come from the side you are turning into. Just started couple days ago and seems to be getting worse. We'll see what the dealer says...

If it's what I'm thinking, It's the same problem I had on my 1997 Thunderbird LX. I had the spring and the surrounding area greased and that took care of the problem, it was caused due to dryness in that area. Hopefully my first post on this forum helps out.

Fixed temporarily

Did some hard figure-8 turns in the parking lot, sending the wheels to their stops in both directions. That seemed to fix it......for about two weeks.

Now, the groan is back with a vengence. I'm going to take it in after the Dream Cruise....it's kind of embarassing for a brand new car to squeak and "groan" its way into a parking spot with people watching, tho.

Clutch packs are the answer

Apparently, the service guy discovered that the clutch packs were to blame for the groaning. He said that they were awfully noisy in 2006, and some early build 2007s may have the same issue. FYI.

Yes, the clutch pack repair was under warranty. It appears more after the car has warmed up. I guess I got lucky because the service rep wanted to hear the noise, so we went outside and he listened while I turned in and out of a parking spot.

TorchRed, maybe if you go in when the car is warmed up and exhibiting the problem and have them listen, they'll hear it better. The clutch pack issue seemed to be well-known among the service people at my dealership, which tells me they've replaced quite a few...

I finally took my GT in for the groaning noise in the front end after storing it all winter. They installed a revised upper strut bearings & spring isolators. It looks like they changed the swaybar links as well.

The groan is now gone. Hope it lasts.
