fron end clunking noise

Ok i have a clunking noise that show up around my driver side front wheel when i hit sharp bumps or potholes in the road. i replaced the struts and mounts thinking they were the cause but it is still there. i checked the sway bar and there is no play in it. could it be the ball join or tie rod ends doing it? i noticed a tie rod end boo was cracked so i orderd 2 of them. will i need to order a new lower control arm/ball joint?

thanks

I had this for a while after struts/springs/sway bar swap. Found the sway bar links a little loose. Get under there with a big swing wrench and lock tight. You have to really crank them tight.

sounds like some metal on metal action..driving me nuts

i tried tightening them with a ratcheting wrench ;p guess i need to use the force then eh?

This is an old, and well known problem. I did a search, and here is the link;

Hope this is helpful.

For me the noise was both ball joints shot to hell at 58K miles. The FRPP GT500 arms are your best bet. Strut bearings were making noise again too so I threw a fresh set in. Again, FRPP GT500 parts are the ticket here.

I thought I had them torqued as well. It wasn't until after I swapped to the GT500 mounts did I find it. I put it on a lift and resolved to re torque every bolt I touched. Backed off some threads, loc-tite and re tightened. don't forget both ends of the links.

This was my 06 GT, not my current ride.

Good luck.

i replaced the strut mounts with GT500 ones and the noise is exactly the same. tomorrow i have new tie rod ends coming in but il check the ball joint and retorque the bolt. i need this noise gone lol for my mental piece of mind :)

I know what you mean. I was going nuts trying to isolate it. Get a big wrench or at least a 1/2 drive ratchet and crank on the links. Won't cost anything but time and you'll be in there anyway. At least hit the nut you disturbed with the strut swap.

How many miles on the ride? What struts did you add?

97k on it made the noise before i changed the struts. i jacked the car up and took the driver side wheel off last night and it looked like the caliper was moving. The bolts were tight so i tried holding the assmebly together by hand and the caliper stopped moving. i isolated the problem to the end links as they were moving and i can wiggle them and make a banging noise by hand.

Glad you found it!
