Broken Emergency Brake

My emergency brake broke this morning. Was having trouble pulling out to go to work, felt like the brakes are stuck. Pulled the handle and the lever had no tension on it. The brakes eventually fixed themselves and let go, but the emergency brake has had it. Taking her in this evening, hopefully all will be worked out.

Sorry to hear about that, man.
Good luck with the repair and let us know what caused the failure, once you know it. Might be something to watch out for.

You know, this morning, it was in the teens, temperature wise. I released the emergency brake, but it didn't seem normal. I drove around, thinking to myself, is the car slowing down abnormally? I released and pulled the brake a couple times. It seems ok now, but I will keep an eye on this this afternoon when I leave work and see how it acts.

Now that I look at that thread that was most likely the issue. And looking at my rotors again i can guess that my rear brakes are most likely shot. (Unfortunately I had pulled out into traffic when i noticed the probem was serious and had to drive several blocks before i could pull over)

I park on a slight incline, not a lot, but enough for me to think the parking brake is a good idea to be safe.

I plan on bringing the TSB with me when i go, most of the techs i talk to i have no idea when i start mentioning TSB's. I had all the my applicable TSB's taken care of on my car a while ago so its sad that this one wasnt an issue for me till now.

Well if your going to have to get the ebrake switched out you may as well upgrade to the PIUP/Shelby Leather ebrake. I think you'll only have to pay the difference between the two which is $20 if that. Ask your dealer when you take it in.

Pic of my leather ebrake.

The TSB does not replace anything inside the car, the handle is reused. The only thing fixed is the short cables under the car.

Sure was TSB 06-5-4. Replaced the rotors and pads as well. Glad to have her back, and to have gotten rid of the rental
