Battery Gauge Inop

Hello. I've got an 05 mustang gt that I've owned since new. Got about 70k miles on it now. The other day I noticed the battery meter is stuck almost straight to the left. Way out of range. Car starts and runs fine. Haven't checked the charging system lately but put a new battery in last summer and it was fine then. Isn't showing any signs of a charging issue. Just wondering if anyone else has had something similar to this happen and have any ideas on what to do or check. Thanks in advance.

A lot of the 05's have had the cluster go bad , on mine it was the speedo and tach that would give false readings , maybe yours is going bad too ?

Yeah. It looks like it. Today my speedo is acting all janky. Done some research. Seems the stepper motors are going bad. It does seem to be a common problem on the 05's. Gonna see what I can do to fix it. You can get upgrade replacements on eBay. Anybody else done this?

I replaced mine with the GT500 cluster , it was the same price as the GT cluster and it has the 160 MPH speedo and the tach is on the right hand side ...

Very cool. Did some looking. Would I have to take it to a dealer to make it work? I know I can do the install myself. The thread I read was unclear on what years needed to have something flashed. FWIW mine has IUP if that matters. We have a good dealership here, but they can be funny about user installed parts. I'm gonna call and ask anyways. They usually give me a pretty good price on parts.

I ordered mine for Steve at Tousley Ford as did other people on the forum since he has about the best price. When you order it he will ask for your milage and have that put into the cluster before he ships it out to you. Installation is simple and takes about 5 minutes and depending on what options you car has that maybe all you need to do. My 05 didn't have the TPMS on it so the warning on the cluster would come on at start up , but once you clear it it stays off till the car is started again. Also some clusters , and mine was one of them , have a warning turned on that chimes when you exceed some speed limit. If you get these warnings and can live with them then you don't need to take it to a dealer , I couldn't so I did take it to the dealer and have them transfer my old cluster configuration into the new one. They should only charge you an hours labor for this ...

I did the stepper motor fix on my tach, and it worked like a charm. Wished I would have ordered five more for my other gauges, since the temp gauge is acting up now. Try this; you can't go wrong for the money.
