balancer broke off 07 mustang while driving

My balancer broke off my 07 mustang while driving, got it towed and saw that the balancer was broke off and stuck to wherever it screws into (i’m not sure) my belt was also popped off and laying down. My question is is this a simple fix or will i be out a lot of time and money getting it replaced. The balancer and belt was just bought and replaced the beginning of this month and has been squealing since getting it replaced

Welcome,

Jay Is it a V6 or Gt?

Was The Part Factory Or Aftermarket? If it Is What Brand?

Did a Shop Put it on?

Copy of Original Parts Receipts and Or Repair Order Would Be Helpful.

Some Pics Of Damage Also Would Be Great!

What Happened To The Original Balancer on The Car That Caused The Second One To Be Put On??

Has Any Other Work To Drivetrain Been Done Recently Such as a Clutch?

Has Car Been in a Front End Collision At Some Point?

If it is a V6 Here Are Some Vids For You!

jaybrown31197 Aug 31, 2024 03:08 PM

hello! it’s a V6 just got it in april used. everything was factory but i did get the belt and balancer replaced a couple weeks ago because the belt popped off unexpectedly after no signs or anything,. i’m not sure if he ordered the same parts or what. the dealer i bought my car from. . i was told the rubber on the balancer was damaged and i had to get a new one and belt.

i wasn’t able to take any pictures today but its definitely cracked and broke bad where i guess the part you screw in. and a part is stuck in is what i was told.
no other work has been done on it nor has it been in any collisions.

Sounds Like They Did a Poor Install. The Last Vid Explains on a Broken One.{Not Sure if Same Situation as Yours} I Would Think They Should Stand Behind Their Repair as it Was So Recent. Watch All The Vids So You Know How Everything Works and Contact Dealer and Just Say it Broke on You & Will You Stand By Your Repair. Do Not Let On That You Have Watched The Vids & Have Some Idea of How it All Works & See If They Try & Pull a Fast One.

Anyhoo that is My Advice Cause it Sounds Like They Did Something Wrong. Part Should Have Some Kind of Warranty On it! They May Have Done Repair Themselves or Sent it Out To Shop. Find Out The Low Down. I would Bet They Hammered The Balancer on & Cracked it or It Got Dropped at Some Point and was Already Cracked! Hopefully it was Not a Used Pulley!

Fyi, I Worked in FORD Dealership Parts for 35 Years So I have Dealt With Some Shady Car Dealers in My Day. Now It Could Be an Honest Mistake or a Bad Part But I Just Think Standing Back & See What They Say First is The Way To Go!

Oh And The Squeeling All the Time after The Work Was a Sign Something Was Not Right From The Git Go. They Should Not Have Released Car to You Like That!

Welcome! I replaced the balancer on my 2006 GT and, like everything else, having the right tools is the win. I've had no issues. But, in your case it's a bit different. Like my peers said above, you had a shop install it and it failed after their install. Thus they are responsible for the repair. What could have gone wrong? Not sure, but the GT and V6 balancers are different so that could not be it. Failing to properly torque the one bolt, failing to seat the balancer all the way in, bad balancer (even if new), failure to properly seat the belt, failure to route the belt correctly are all possibilities...and all signs of a shady shop. Let us know how it goes.

Well It's Ripping One Tooth off The Belt Right Out Of The Gate. Need To See Vid of It Running and All Components Belt Rides On. Could Be Wrong Tensioner But I Can't Understand Crank Pulley Popping Off. Lets See Pics of Old Parts If You Have Them. Everything Simply Needs To Be in a Straight Line as Far as The Belt is Concerned. Could Have a Bent Crank or The Crank Has Been Worn At The End of The Snout. More Pics & Info The Better.

belt and balancer keeps popping off after 3 repairs

Hello, so once again my belt and balancer popped off after losing power and trying to start car. this is the 4thtime now since august 28th….. i saw my tensioner moving and belt barely hanging on there
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...12de9b0e0.jpeg
belt barely hanging on the tensioner after repairs were done. tensioner shakes at the top and doesn’t look stable. it doesn’t move at all now that the belt is off..
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...e21c2e9ca.jpeg
car died at red light, battery light comes on, belt and balancer is completely off…..
after repairs. i was told either my balancer wasn’t mounted correctly or not enough screws to hold it in place or i could need a new tensioner. i have no idea, all i know is when driving you hear rattling under the hood, the car didn’t accelerate or drive properly , and it would eventually lose power while driving or coming to a stop. the red battery light comes on and if you try to crank vehicle then the balancer and belt pops off……. please help i spent all of september getting it fixed just for the same thing to keep happening.

If you're referring to the harmonic balancer falling off? You either don't have the correct balancer or it's defective and should be replaced... The best way to determine if the belt tensioner is wearing out, is when you begin to hear chirping noises or if your serpentine belt shows signs of premature wear... As soon as I was able to pinpoint that the chirping noises were coming from the belt tensioner, I went ahead and replaced it which did indeed resolve the chirping issues and hasn't come back ever since...

Is This The Harmonic Balancer Bolt?????? If So It is Not Correct.

The Threads are Stripped and May Be Due To Simply Wrong Bolt, Threads Were Stripped By Previous Work. A Piece Of Original Bolt From First Replacement Could Be Broke Off in Snout as Well. This Would Keep Bolt From Seating All The Way In.

This Is What Correct Bolt Should Look Like and They are a one Time Use{All Thread Special Bolt}. The {Shouldered Bolt} Pictured May Not Seat Correctly Which Would Cause Damper To Come Off. Hopefully The Threads in The Crankshaft Can Be Smoothed Out Enough To Get a Good Bite.

Now if This Is Some Other Random Bolt Whatever it Screws Into Will Need Some Attention to Bite.

It is Critical Damper is Installed Correctly With an Installer Vs Being Hammered on or Trying To Pull it on With Install Bolt.

Must Be Installed as as shown in 2nd PDF.

I just cannot even imagine a Harmonic Balancer flying off, I just cant. I am not saying it's not possible. Heck, everything in life is almost possible. Just that the bolt would have to be super lose, and I can only imagine the hell it could unleash if that thing came off...bolt and everything.

It's also possible that whoever installed the balancer did a very poor installation job and very well could have stripped out some of the bolt threads during the installation process, but that's just a guess on my part... :dunno:
