Accelerator Pedal Sticking

Anyone else have this issue: I have a 2007 GT vert (auto). I was a standstill and floored it to get around a parked car. The accelerator seemed to stick and to continue to accelerate on its own. I double checked the floormat and nothing was in the way. It released on its own a few seconds later, but man was that shocking! Any help would be appreciated before I take it in to help tell them what to look for...

Well, you already checked the floor mat. The only other thing it could be is the pedal assembly itself, maybe you just got a defective one. Try moving the pedal with the car off and see if it sticks or binds on anything, look around very carefully for any indication of the carpet or anything else catching it.

I may have described it wrong, the pedal does not control anything but a sensor and it may not have been the pedal itself increasing the RPM'S. Could have been something in the control module? Oh well, that's what a warranty is for, but man did it flip me out.

Maybe the throttle body or electric solenoid attached to it is the problem then, there have been some reports of check engine lights and going into fail safe mode due to a faulty throttle body.

This has happened to me 3 times in last few months. 1st time I thought it was in my head. But freaked out. The second time I ran into a small fence, and really freaked me out. So I call local ford dealer to check for recalls. None they could find they said. So few months later, (last week to be exact. I totaled my 2010 mustang. Only one being it by smashing into tree. Luckily I’m alive and safe w few cuts and bruises and some body aches. But now no car. And each time they happened echos you explained.

You see the ground? I couldn’t even brake.

Wow well THAT certainly sucked! First off I'm glad you're ok obviously could have been way worse. I'd be ticked that no one could figure it out but also not sure if I would have wanted to drive it with that ongoing problem!

Stuck accelerator

Well like I said I called and no recalls. And then brushed it off like maybe it was me. Until the third time. When I literally was flying and going head on w house so I had to stop to protect possible innocent lives in the house. So the tree on opposite of me making sure to hit the passenger side. Trying to at least have some say so in the issue. Guiding it to the tree was my only way. It just sucks. And I wonder if ford knows about this?

yeah that sucks big time ... glad nobody was seriously hurt, other than your Mustang .... but I have not heard of this as a common issue with these cars

floor mats that move are one possible cause; they get stuck under or on top of the pedal

I know it's hard in that panic situation because you don't have time to do much of anything, but if that ever happens again, pop the transmission in neutral or turn off the ignition

I'm also glad that you're okay and weren't seriously injured... Although, I would also be devastated over the loss of my Mustang, just remember that a car can always be replaced, but a person's life can never be replaced... What matters the most is that your okay... In the meantime, have you considered contacting an attorney? I think it's worth a shot at possibly filing a lawsuit over the accelerator sticking, which directly was responsible for causing the accident, to begin with...

IMHO, I would consider the accelerator sticking as a factory related safety issue and also as a factory defect as well... Meanwhile, I'm once again glad that you're okay and also welcome aboard...

WOW, glad you're OK! I wonder if you could get the pedal assembly off the car (or if the insusrance would want to have the junkyard do it) so it can be inspected. I've never heard of something like this on these cars.

One of The Reasons I Hate Drive By Wire as The More Sophisticated The System The More Things That Could Be Causing it. If it Were My Car The First Thing I Would Have Done Is Physically Checked The T/B For Any Hitches in the Blade. By Slowly Opening The Blade With Your Finger and Yes it Can Bite You & The Spring is Strong You Can Feel if it Does Not Move Through it's Entire Range with Even Pressure. If It Felt Like it Had Some Stickyness It Would Be Replaced. Then if Nothing Was Found I Would Still Remove T/B and Give a Good Physical Cleaning.

Then On To The Pedal Assembly To Check Connections & a Good Cleaning on Those Connections and a Flush of The Electrical Board inside Pedal Assembly Using Electrical Contact Cleaner.

If The Car Had a Tune That Also Might Be Suspect and I Would Return to Stock if That is an Option & See if it Happened a Second Time. If So I Would Go Ahead & Replace Pedal Assembly & T/B Just To Eliminate Those As Suspect.

Anyhoo, That's My Advice For Anybody reading This Down The Road Will Similar Issues!

It Would Be Required With Self Driving Cars! No Worries If The Gear Fails With No Driver! No Prob at All! No Issue with Runaway Throttle Either!

The Human Factor is Just So Underappreciated By The Creators of High Tech Devices!
