60k mile check up

Recently got a big surprise. My girl is ready for her 60k service check.....but my pocketbook is not! I thought...oh, maybe a couple hundred....but I received a quote for $1000! Is this typical? To boot, breaks need replacing too, $480. Is this pirate girl being taken advantage of, or are these quotes fair?

brakes are very easy to do. 480 is outrageous. My Daughter does her own brakes. Brake pads are around 100 for the front and rear. Rotors are around 60 each for the front. You may or may not need them. What else are they going to do for 1000 bucks?

Brakes can be done at almost any shop for less. Lots of shops with brake job specials. I would get a detailed estimate and give us more info. Sounds like its probably a lot of just up sell maintenance that they all try and sell people.

Screw the dealer bud. Dealer charges like $95 an hour, reasonable shop charges like $50 an hour. They're gonna give you a bunch of bs. Check brakes tires belts hoses etc. Not sure how you could have to pay more than $300 at 60k miles. My car has 60k it's an 08 and I work at a repair shop, $1000 is ridiculous.

Great advice from everyone! A BIG thank you to you all. It's hard to hear that these prices are on the ridiculous side simply because this is a shop my Grandfather and Dad both trusted. I just recently lost my Dad, and miss all the car advice and help he used to give me.
Have a good one!

@ Glenn - Thanks for all your feedback. Yes to your question. Southern AZ is all I wish to share. I'm not confortable changing the brakes on my own. My plan is to do some checking around, and make a decision from that. Thanks again.

60K -> manual transmission fluid change and fuel filter

If you follow the service manual in the owners guide . .. . there are 3 service items at 60K (in addition to oil and tire rotation). . .1) fuel filter (also changed at 30K I believe) (2) manual transmission fuild change and air filter. $1000 sounds WAY too high . . . I think most honest Ford dealers would charge $300 ($150 for the transmission, $100 for the fuel filter, $25 for the air filter, and $25 for the oil/tire . . . . I need to do the same thing on my 05 GT . . . .I was thinking about going to a non-dealer shop . . .

Hi AZpir8pony,

You should also check out www.Owner.Ford.com for coupons. Here is a couple that might help:

if you could post the detailed print out of what they are offering to do for $1000 that would be good. Most brake placeswill do pads for like 69 bucks a pair installed with a warranty.

Hey Tammy I read your post and sorry to hear about your dad. Yeah these breaks are super easy to do i.e take it to a reputable shop and have them change them. It's hard to mess these up. Dont let them try to sell you a new car. Your plugs are fine for one at 60k. Do fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter, breaks, oil change and your good. Hope this helps a little. If I was in that area I would do it for free for ya. Take care!

I had something similar just recently. My dealer recommended the following: Air filter change (27.06), fuel filter (52.00), power steering flush (137), coolant flush (138), belt replacement (67), cabin filter (50), battery (142)...grand total $992.00

I've done the air and cabin filters myself. Pwer steering flush? Really? Yeah, my battery is old but the same Motorcraft can be had for $10 cheaper or $30 cheaper for an 84 mo.

you can buy a optima batter for that price and its a far better battery. The belt is super easy and the flushs can be done for far less.

I'm not sure what you mean by "better". The original is rated at 590cca, and it has started every day so far and is 5 years old. I dont think I can expect better.
