2006 Mustang Rear End Groan

My early 2006 Mustang GT (built 8/17/05, VIN 102107) exhibits the same rear end groan that was addressed in a TSB for 2005 Mustang GTs.

Do any of you other 2006 Mustang owners experience this? I can't find a TSB on it for MY2006 vehicles.

Brad

Same exact issue with mine

I printed out the 05 TSB and took it into the dealer (keep in mind I had 4.10 gears in too) ;-) and they ordered the clutch packs and did the fix under warranty no questions asked. Im not sure if maybe its been updated in OASIS or what but they did the same fix as they do for the 05 and the problem is gone for me, this was done about 2 weeks ago.

I sent the New Tsb to Brad. I wish I knew how to post pdf's other than printing scaning and posting as a pic. It is always best to have your dealer run your vin to get the latest tsb's on your vehicle. just because a tsb exists it may or may not apply to a particular vin.

I am not a fan of the Posi TSB for reasons listed here.

Ok, maybe mine does not have it, but what do you mean by groan?

What speed, during shifting?

I have an October 13 build - and yes I have both rear end TSB issues. It's in the shop now (going on four days, parts are supposed to be in today, all the way from Detroit apparently) for the 55-65 MPH whine. I also had the low speed turning noise, but read 05stangkc's post and decided not to mention that to the dealer for now. Since they are rebuilding the rear end for the other TSB, I'm going to wait and see what that does for the low speed turning noise. I have two bottles of XL-3 at the ready in case it decides to come back.

Brad - one of my lost threads was about this exact same issue. The shop followed the TSB procedure the first time around that didn't get it. 2nd time around they called Ford and ended up replacing a bar and something else with the axle and that seemed to address the noise.

I have, on occasion, heard rear seat passengers groan. It usually depends on the amount of lateral cornering force I am subjecting them to. It also seems to be directly proportional to the amount of squealing emanating from the rear tires.

I got my car back this morning for the 55-65MPH whine (I know that's not really what this thread is about). Quiet as a mouse so far at speed, but still groans a little on low speed turns. Not as bad as before, though. Bottle o' XL-3, here we go...

My 2006 GT (purchased 1/2006) was also making the moaning/rubbing sounds when turning at low speed. I showed the dealer the TSB and one of their mechanics confirmed the problem. Parts arrived this week and it is scheduled for the TSB repair next week.

I need to take mine in for the same issue. Showed up at 3000 miles, and only does it when I've been driving for a while.

Resr end groan

Redline 75-140 rearend gear oil has the additive in it from the start.
Redline also has the additive available seperately, in their own formulation to add to other synthetic lubes.
I have changed the rear end lube in my '06 GT already to Redline, and have never had the noise problem.
Any questions? Contact me via PM or posted numbers in the sticky above.

Ah nuts, I take it back. The whine is a little better, but now I have a low volume howl at 65. I will give the new ring and pinion 500 miles to work itself out. If not, I'll have to debate on taking it back in or not.

I think the whine was coming from the transmission in the first place and the TSB repair put the TSB symptoms into my car now.

Great....do I sound like a hypo-TSB-condriac? I bet my service advisor will think so...

another similiar case

Quote:

I have an 06 GT with 8000 miles. At about 6000 miles, my rear axle growled around turns and my manual transmission developed a high-pitched whine in all forward gears except 4th. It will only do it when the transmission is hot after about 30 min. of driving and the outside temp. is above 80. The first 3 gears sounds like a supercharger winding up and 5th gear is a constant whine around 60mph with light throttle and goes away at 70mph. It's loud enough to hear over the flowmasters and radio at mid-volume. The dealer is baffled and said he'll have to do some research on it but it's probably normal for that transmission. I've tried different transmission fluids and presently have mobil 1 ATF at this time. The dealer changed ring and pinion gear and replaced clutch packs (both TSB's) thinking it was the rear-end. The growl went away but it didn't change the whine. I thought you may have some insight since I noticed in a thread you have a transmission shop. I've owned 4 other Mustangs and never heard a whine like this.

Reply from transmission mechanic:
The input bearing (in the front of the trans) might be pitted which will cause the whining sound. Find a good tranny shop in your area & ask there rebuilder to take it for a ride & see what he thinks. It sounds like a input bearing to me. Let me know.

Matco,
That sounds EXACTLY like my symptoms...did you ever take yours in to a tranny shop like the mechanic suggested?

another similiar problem

Tranny shop heard whine but cannot verify components without tearing down transmission. Since car is still under warranty, I must persuade dealership to go in that direction. It may be at least a week until I can get car back to dealer.

How about everybody else - is the supercharger whine "normal"??? (Apologies for hijacking Brad's thread...)
