My third brakelight is out (of course, after a Ford Service dept gets their hands on the car a little while ago to swap out my decklid - way to go fellas....... :bang: )

So needless to say, my last handlful of experiences with service depts at dealerships (THREE different ones) has been average to seriously lacking..... if there's anything I can do myself, I wanna do it......

So if I can change out this bulb myself I'd like to but I DON'T wanna break that plastic cover (I think 05GT OCD - John - had to remove his once and broke one of the clips).

Anyone know how to get this puppy off???

 

it just pops off. 2 plastic clips that pop into 2 metal retentioners. There is 1 on each side. At the back (furthest from the bulb) the plastic just has 2 clips that pop into place. It comes off very easily. So easily that once you remove it you might have to get a new one. I know I need to get mine replaced because it keeps falling off on its own.

 

yea, make sure you don't completely pull it off and break the brackets, did that by accident and broke one of the brackets, had that thing dangling in the trunk for months b4 i got it fixed, man it was annoying

 

Just got back from FORD. Have a new cover and metal clips on order to fix mine

 

Don't make the mistake I did. I used to stick my finger in the hole on the cover at the latch to start the trunk pull down to close it. I never yanked just a gentle pull to keep me from putting fingerprints on the car.

The darned thing broke off right when I was showing off the car to my Dad for the first time. I looked at him and said "Oh S**t now that's embarrasing"

His response? "Yeah I guess it was".

He's such a smart As*.

Are you talking about the plastic cover with the interior light thingy? That broke off in mine a while ago. I drilled a hole in each side of it and used cable ties to hold it in. It's been rock solid since

GREAT ADVICE!!! Mine broke last year putting hockey equipment in and it has made me mad for a long time. Thanks for the info & in 5 minutes it looked as good as new with the zip tie and a small hole drilled in the plastic... Another reason I love fellow stangers they always have great ideas!!

 

 

I'll have to try the zip ties. I have broken both plastic clips on mine and it is still loose. Terrible design Ford.

Maybe it just takes us stang owners a little longer then most to come up with a good cheap solution to a Ford design flaw! LOL
