weather
we finally got some rain over here in the shoals.. thank god!!!! Its thundering and lightning a little now... i wish it would take 1 day and just rain alllllllllllllllllll day and night long.. im sick of the pollen..
for once i headed in the rite direction .. normally i head for the car wash in hazel green or new market to get cover .. and usually i run into the worst .. last nite i got out just before anything happened and i went to new market and saw nuthin .. i hate bad weather
I saw the swirl
About 10:30 last night me and my WF were walking back from my brother's place. I said to her "Do you hear the rain in the trees west of here ? (About an 1/8 of a mile)" a minute later I was sending her into the house and went to my truck to get the weather radio. I opened the door on the truck, the wind got a hold of it and about knocked me down. I went back in the house by way of the front door on the north, looked at the TV, the weathermen hadn't cut into late night programming yet. Went out the back door, looked south, saw lightning and it lit up that electric green like when a tornado is in the cloud. Saw the swirl, kind of a whipper tail. That would have been south of me kind of over the HG Aiport or a little further south. Went back inside, looked at the TV. The weathermen said a tornado was on radar. They had tracked it heading southeast from Ardmore to Meridianville.
I saw that same kind of glow the day I looked towards the Arsenal while I was in west Huntsville Nov '89. the day of the devastating Airport Road Tornado.
My shop is built on a site where either the '73 or '74 tornados came through north Madison County. It blew away a chicken barn that use to sit exactly where I am sitting now. The woman I bought the property from said they fired up the grill and picked up all of their dead chickens, prepped them, cooked them and ate them that same day.
May '95 I think it was, we were hanging out at the shop watching the weather coverage. There had already been tornados in states west of us.
I said to the people in the shop, "If I say the "T" word I'm not joking". I went to the back door looked west towards harvest and kind of south west a little was this red clay blob bouncing east across north Madison County. I shut the back doors and locked them. Somebody said "what is it ?" I said "not really sure". We cleared out of the shop, locked the doors and we all headed for the storm shelter next door. No sooner had we got in the shelter, tennis ball and baseball size hail started falling. It beat up every car here at the shop that was outside and broke 17 windshields. The blob I saw had already hit Anderson Hills sub-division and the dragstrip. Drove over there a couple of days later. Anderson Hills was a mess.
We are just at the beginning of tornado season this year.
