Spun bearing

Well it looks like my 4valve may have a spun bearing. A few weeks ago I took a cousin for a ride ( you know the kind I'm talking about) and the next day the car was making odd noises. I thought it might be another exhaust leak but it's gotten worse and more metallic sounding. So today I left work a little early and got to looking at the car and the exhaust looks in tact. I'll be further investigating tomorrow after getting an engine hoist so I can take the oil pan off. Maybe I'm over looking something but I'm thinking the worst right now.

Oh, my... I am not liking to hear that, Byron.

You know your leveler is still in good hands. Although, I will be away from the house tomorrow. But the wife will be home.

I hope the crank is good. If not, stroke it....that, with the big bore, should be interesting.

Update: Good news. Dad and I were looking at the car today and started taking things apart when we noticed that the K-member brace lost a bolt somehow. We thought this might be causing the banging noise because it and the headers were marked up from hitting each other. So we took it off and put everything back together to check and see. When we started the car the knocking noise was still there but the tone had changed and it had gotten louder. Now it definately didn't sound like rod knock so we investigated the exhaust flange more and discovered that the #1 header was now leaking really bad. Soo bad you can feel it if you get your hand up by the AC compressor. I still have to drop the k-member some to get to the header bolts but it's alot better and less expensive than rod knock. Oh and as far as I can tell the engine is running smooth like butter.

Get some stage 8's and forget about having to deal with the bolts ever again.

Gary, perhaps it loosened instead of broke. I run Stage 8s and lost one.

Great to hear, Byron. A lot cheaper and easier, for sure.

it's got stage 8's in there. The gasket just blew out from the looks of it. When I put it all together I had Ford and Percy's gaskets. I've been told to use the Ford's so that's what I was doing and ripped one. So it has Ford on the Driver's side and Percy's on the Passenger side. Guess which one blew.

Not the the Ford one. Have another set of Fords on the way so this should be a non-issue soon enough.

Hmmmm... Y'all definitely know those engines better than me. I just figured an exhaust bolt, not something with all that hardware. Then I went back and read and I find that only the K-member brace bolt is lost. Again, I had no idea those bolts had that type of setup.

I'll shut my mouth now.

No Ralph....I need to pay more attention. I thought he meant the header bolt was missing.......Don't ask how I got that message from what he typed, I just did.

Anyway, Good news to hear nothing is terribly wrong.
