Sectioned my fenders this past weekend.
My 89 fox has the Maximum Motorsports tubular K-member and the SN95 length MM tubular control arms, so the front wheels are 1.5" forward and 1.5" out from stock. The wheels no longer fit in the wheel opening of a stock fender. Tiger Racing makes carbon fiber fenders to accomodate these mods, but I thought I'd modify my stock fenders and save some serious dough.
Notice the tire rubbing on the front part of the wheelwell. Draw and cut the front section of the fender out, along with a 2" strip.
Place the wheelwell forward 2" and weld back into place. Using the scrap from the 2" strip, fabricate the missing piece at the top of the wheelwell.
That takes care of the 1.5" forward. Now to flare the fender. Cut the fender underneath the trim and pull the fender out by hand. Insert a rod to hold the fender out. The cut that was made will widen as the fender is pulled out. I welded small pieces to keep the cut pulled open, which makes the flare more stable.
Grind down the welds and put a skim coat of bondo over the wound.
Cut the trim to match the new front of the fender and reattach. Prime/Paint/Install

Mark, You just chopped up some original fenders, slapped some bondex on them and painted it in one weekend and everyone wants you to paint their car? How's it feel to work on your own Stang again? Good work, seriously, honestly, seriously. Want to help when I start on the Mustchero project (soon to be revealed)!? (ICE COLD BEVERAGES...) kennyg
