Ring an pinion install
Ring an pinion install
I'm in the process of doing a few things and started a projects thread on a european Mustang board. I figured I might post some of it here so that folks can see my progress.
It started out as just rebuilding my diff, but I decided to source a spare housing and purchase a new differential to install gears and then just swap out my newly rebuilt one for the old one. I will then rebuild the old center section and diff with different gears....perhaps autobahn/road race friendly, or even to sell outright and get some $$ back.
The link to the thread is at the bottom.
Highlights are:
1. Project spiraled from rebuilding mine to sourcing another to swap.
2. Preparing diff for diff cooler. The stock center section doesn't dissapate heat as well as a large stick axle. Heat builds up during prolonged time at speed (read: autobahn, or road course) and kills the friction material in the diff. This will allow it to run cooler. The cooler will be added later, I have just drilled and will tap the holes for the lines. Until I complete it I will plug them with pipe plugs.
3. Sourced spare rear diff bracket, powdercoated it and installed delrin bushing.
4. Sourced spare upper control arms, drilled for grease fittings and installed delrin bushings.
5. Swapped out poly front diff bushings for aluminum ones.
6. Received adjustable sway bar endlinks for IRS. These were given to me as a consolation for a mix up in communication. The person thought I was asking for upper control arm bushings instead of upper control arms so they sent me those after we figured out the confusion.
7. Will rebuild old diff after it is swapped out.

Mark,
Good to hear from you. I sure do miss the RCMC folks over here. I've been taking a class on autobody and paint while over here. Still kick myself for not cornering you and forcing you to teach me how to paint.
