Paint Style?

We can't decide what we are going to do with the GT hood we just got for the 67. We have different paint styles..

I have 2 and my dad has atleast 2.

His - http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...n/106_6891.jpg

Mine- I don't have a picture of. But it would be a full gloss black hood.

If you have it painted solid red by the same guy that painted the right door then at least the door and hood will match! Now that you're going to have to paint, are you going to put the R valance back on too? kennyg

No that is staying off. We liked it with the original valance on.

Solid colors never go out of style. Something to think about.

If I go solid on the hood I am going to get the extra paint. I want to paint the rest of the car that is in crappy condition.

Here are some pics of the hood so far. Got it sanded down. Might get it primed tomorrow. www.photobucket.com/gthood

Your pics at the link you provided were too dark for me to see. Why don't you post pics directly in the thread you have started or are replying too? kennyg

I guess it is easier just to post a URL. I will take some more pictures. That was when I had the garage door closed.

Here are some more pictures. Also pictures of the rust we have to take care of. Either going to buy some metal and replace those pieces or bondo over. Still have to sand the underside.

NEVER bondo over rust! It will come back and soon.

Those pics are much better! What's in the box on the workbench? Huh, huh?Inquiry minds want to know! mgreene is right about the rust issue. The proper way to fix it would be to find another hood and cut out the whole front 2-3 inches of the inner structure and weld it in. The GT, or turn signal hood is a nice option. It was found on GT's in '67, and fairly common on '68's, especially 6 cylinder Sprints. kennyg

That is beer making material for my dad.

What about fiberglass? Could I fiberglass over it?

What shop around here laser matches paint? I was told to laser match my paint so it won't be messed up.

Do you have a welder? Most of those holes look small enough that you could fill in the holes by welding them. Then its smooth, prime, smooth, paint.

Well I already started the fiberglass. Got half of it done already. Then the other half didn't work, then I ran out of hardener, and finally I got resin on my fingers because I only had 1 glove

The problem with fiberglassing, is that you're not really fixing the problem (same with welding up the holes). If the metal surrounding the holes is still rusty, it's only a matter of time until it starts to bubble as well. The only correct way to fix it is to cut out the rusty metal as far away from the holes as necessary to get to good, clean, unoxidized metal, and weld a new patch piece(s).

The metal around them is pretty strong.

How do I get resin off my fingers? I already tried hot water and I ran out of finger nail polish remover.

Here are some pictures. I already found out a suck at fiberglassing. Still have 2 sheets of fiberglass I can use. Just don't have any hardener.

Went out and bought some hardener. Finished it up. Just have to sand it down and prime it.
