Dynetics Friday 4/13
Yeah, it will be Friday the Thirteenth. I got a call from Robin Frye of Woody Anderson Ford. She does realize this is very short notice for club members. They are sponsoring and supplying a lunch over at Dynetics since it is one of Woody's Plan companies (open to companies with more than 500 members). Along with some great food (chicken tenders grilled in several ways, grilled vegetables, some other stuff as well as tea and probably the sno-cone machine), there will even be a photographer snapping a lot of pictures that will go up to Dearborn.
So, Robin asked if she thought any club members would be interested in bringing their cars by to show. Evidently the Director of HR there is a big older Mustang fan. If you are interested, I'd like to get an estimate of a headcount by Thursday night to give to her. She is asking that the cars be in place (back parking lot at Dynetics) by 10. The lunch is then 11-1 and if you have your car, you will also get a free lunch. I also understand that if you have to work (like me, darnit), you can leave your keys with Robin or her assistant.
Please let me know by Thursday evening. I'd like to try and give Robin a tentative number to expect. Friday's weather is supposed to be awesome!

Shucks, Gary. Don't tell my work, okay?
Phillip, I appreciate that you would like to have your car at this event, yet I cannot find your club membership and dues. I just checked the PO Box today. Have you forgotten to send it?

if this is your stance on me showing MY car. I won't pay dues....I don't find a reason for dues unless I'm getting something out of it. do you think I get some kind of hard on to be there or something, to have people look at my car? shiat. personally I hate shows. I was gonna do it cause you asked....I have better things to do. when I get something out of this club other then a parking spot at the event, let me know...

Yea that $12.00 is a real wallet buster
I have gotten a chance to meet some pretty decent mustang guys. Gone to a NASA event. Learned how to rebuild a Diff, and I'm pretty sure I can tackle gears now as well.
But since you mentioned it, what exactly are you looking for in a Club?

Oh and let's not forget the Club's donation to charity every year.

Phillip,
All of the above posts show some of the reasons for club dues as well as what other people get out of the RCMC. I am wondering what type of idea you have about what the RCMC is all about. Have you visited the website and read through our charter? Have you seen some of the pictures of the events for club members?
I did not ask you to show your car. I wrote a post in the RCMC forum that states "very short notice for club members". You should want to join the club for other reasons. Gary hits the nail when he talks about the comradery that is built from the social interactions. In the short time that I have been president, I can tell you that I have some very good times, and I have wept. My car has broken down deep in the hills of Tennessee and I had folks offer everything they had to me to help me. I have seen the look on some people's faces when we gave a surprise check of $1000 to their charity. I have seen the face of a club member when they were surprised with a huge check to help out unexpected medical bills. These things have really made a life-long impression on me.
All for $12.
As I said in my previous post, I appreciate that you would want to help out. Once you decide what you want out of this club, we will be glad to have you.
ObPost: So, I hope to see a few folks/cars there tomorrow. I sent an email out to the club as well. If you need more details, please feel free to give me a call.

I contribute in more ways then you all might believe. if you need help with something, if I can I will be there. I don't ask for anything. in germany, we never paid anything, have less then 100 active members, a site that is outstanding, and they help people out alot. maybe not with money, but I've seen members drive from spain to help people in germany sometimes italy. for nothing. just because they want to help. I offered to help you mberglo. so to say I'm not a team player is assanine. in fact I offered it twice. you don't know me, you don't know if I'm even capable or not. but hey, why pass judgement on someone who really can't afford 12 dollars. sorry, I don't have it. when I begin making the money to be able to say fugg it here's 12 bucks, then I will. but that time isn't right now. but the bull**** part was calling me out the way you did without pm'n me first. and there is alot of BS on this site. when I post a topic that is an honest topic and it get's closed cause RCMC does not condone street racing. that's BS. grow up people. everyone doesn't if you don't I call bs. maybe you calibrate your speedo. whatever, things like that **** me off. same as when the claims of a different member here are just kind of disregarded. if you want to donate to someone, that's fine...but ask for donations from the members, not dues. and I don't really know what the hell the club insurance is...what does that cover. what does a club trailer do? when I came in, I wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms, we went to that little place of research for a meet, didn't sit with you guys cause we had kids with us. when I came over to try and say hello, most of ya just kind of looked at me like WTF. try working on your manner's to start with, especially those of who are heads here. we never once heard from anyone. screamin didn't either. I haven't seen a **** bit of comradery from dues. but from people. dues don't buy friends. the day they do, is the day I stop "trying" to be a positive member of the club...that day might be today. cause from the sounds of the above, if I don't pay my dues no one will help me. I'm glad you guys have signs and trailers, but to be honest, that isn't important to me in the least. I'm not gonna thread jack this anymore. if anyone would like to continue, pm me. I would hate to be responsible for another thread closing...however BS it might be.

*chuckles*
Anytime for you, Eric.
Back on subject...
I got a call from Holly a little bit ago. If anyone wants to drop their car off but still needs to be at work. her and her assistant - Chris Connolly - will help with getting you a ride back to work. And a ride to come pick your car back up.
As a clarification, I mentioned Holly getting the keys to the car. This is NOT mandatory. I meant to say if you would like to leave the keys with her.
Tomorrow's gonna be pretty and I am at least leaving my piece of junk. I'll even leave a few drops of oil to show that I have been there.

Thanks everyone! I told Robyn 3 cars and even I was surprised!
Now I am jeaous that there was a 69 Mach 1 there and I missed it. No problem, I am sure more folks will see it later.
Anyway, thank you very much for helping Woody to make this a fun event for Dynetics. Even got to see a friend's 2003 Mach 1.

Sorry I couldn't attend Ralph. Had to work and the car's not really worthy of displaying anyway.
I wasn't going to respond to virginiavenom's comments but I must.
Mr. Phillip,
I for one also don't know you, but I have to agree with the others in that what do you expect from a club? I don't know about over seas, but here in the states it's normal to expect to have to pay dues to join a club. $12 a year is a pretty good bargain. It cost you all of 40 cents a day. I've had times when I couldn't afford it either but I find a way because I enjoy being a part of the club, have been since 1988. On to the subjects you commented on.
Street racing, let's see, any kind of racing should be done on a track, not on the streets where you put other lives in jepordy. That's my opinion. But what you do is your own business.
Donations, well, Deb and I were the recipient of a generous donation from the club. It was out of the blue and greatly appreciated. Did it come from membership dues, NO, it came from the hard work club members put in to make our show the success it is and from other people wanting to help us out. The club also makes yearly donations to local charities.
Insurance, our club has to have insurance to be able to put our show on yearly. It's a requirement.
Comradery, I think this club has it in spades. I was helped out just last month by several members when I ran over an object off I-565 that eventually put a hole in my transmission pan. Patrick Turner happened to have a trailer with him and towed the car to my sisters house.
Club trailer, I believe it was paid for by profits made from our yearly show.
I will agree with you that dues don't buy friends but I will say that you probably wouldn't meet these folks anywhere else.

Heck, my 84 has water in one headlight, leaking a quart of oil every 500 miles, coffee stains in the driver's seat, paint chipped off on the front piece, bald tires, cracked dash, wasted seat belt sleeves... The vert has a bent hood and fender... The truck has... well... it's a truck!
But I just picked up my second raise of the year... 14%. I think I'm gonna get a few parts.
And check out the Woody and Cookout thread I started. May 4th.
Hope to see y'all there!
