computer probs..anyone know about them?

My lap top freaking crashed sometime today. I cut it on tonight to check my email and winows will not even load. It just goes through the start up part for about 30 minutes and boots me and reboots the computer stating there is an error. The computer isnt even a year old!!! Im so ticked off... bu its a gateway lap top if anyone could help me i appreciate it. I'm using my mothers lap top now..im praying gateway will fix it under warranty.

This same sort of thing happened to my Sony last year, it was a little over 1 year old and I had several anti-virus programs running, but this virus/worm got through it anyway. It would cause the computer to boot, then restart, then do it again and again. I took it to Comp USA and for $80 then removed that worm, plus 4 or 5 more worms and like 109 viruses. It's a **** shame that I pay yearly contracts for these virus blockers and they allow this much crap to get into your system.... Anyway, try CompUSA or return it to wherever you bought it at and see what they say?

If you have the Windows CD, you could do a repair on it, but probably like most machines today they don't give you one.

You could also press F8 at the boot up and try safe mode. Would help to know the error.

No windows cd. But gateway told me to do a full system restore (destructive) on it and see if that worked.. Im working on that right now..

My lap top before this one did the same thing about a year ago. I got annoyed with it and just bought a new one..8 months later the same thing. Its getting annoying.

Well, my nickname is Puter for a reason. Picked it 19 years ago. But I don't think that you could afford me. *grin*

That'll fix it, unless you have a hardware problem.

Soo i open it and windows loaded! So far it seems ok.. gonna play around with it and check. Gateway did tell me to send it in to be looked at and fixed while still under warranty.

Try AVG, they have a Free version, I've been using it for probably 4 years now, automatic updates. I've only had 2 problems with a Virus on my PC ever, both times I was out of town, but were due to the Kids being on the PC when they knew they weren't supposed to be. 1 downloaded a JPG with a virus in it, the other somehow did something similiar with making a Paint picture and trying to save it as a wall paper.

An Anti-virus can't help it if you open the door!

I know with Dell you can call and get the discs if you didn't get any with your computer. I would assume HP would do the same thing, you might just have to pay for shipping. Make and model information from everyone might make it easier to help.
