Blue Bomb

Well,
I made it to steak n shake, but that about as far as i got. my car was soking ungodly amounts, and i was overheated, so i got the car back to the shop i was working on it at and took a look at the smoking....It turns out that my tranny dip stick blew out and had been spraying tranny fluid on my exhaust and poof theres the smoke. So now im just waiting on my radiator to come in on thursday and i should be good to go.

Thanks Ralph and Mark

PS
i thought i was obsessive about mustangs, and i now know by talking with you two that i have a long way to go! Its great being around ppl with the same passion that i have.

Heheh... I was wondering about all of that smoke.

Obsessive?
*hides the shifter I sleep with under my pillow*
I don't know of anyone obsessive.

Good meeting you, Asa.

that's funny.....I think we are all obsessive about mustangs....it's a condition, it happens the first time you turn the key on your stang (whether it starts or not)

You sleep with a shifter under your pillow? Isn't that illegal in Alabama?

Yep, the stock Fox 5.0 motors (like the 86) use a single serpentine belt and a reverse rotation water pump. You have a two-belt system and it is turning the pump in a "regular" rotation. That means that the pump should be configured or bought for "regular" rotation. Hopefully yours is. All you can do is ask the person that you bought it from.

Are the V belt and serpentine belt pullies so easily exchanged that a person could make this mistake? I can only attest to the v belt pulley. It fits snugly over a center pin and attached with 4 finethread bolts. I would be a bit surprised if you could make that swap easily.

OK, i called and asked about the rotation and I got this reply....."yeah the water pump turns the right way." So i guess when i start upgrading i find out.
I also asked about the heads and he said he had the machined and ported and crap like that.

Mark - Yep, the pulley goes on the same. You have a shaft in the center and 4 bolts around.

Asa - Good to hear. One question, you mentioned a 331 bottom end. I take it that the pistons were either replaced or notched? The 86 pistons do not have valve reliefs which made it a bear to use any other cam or rockers with more lift.
